The Bills’ defensive line will have a third representative in Hawaii.

Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will replace injured 49ers defensive lineman Justin Smith in Sunday’s Pro Bowl in Honolulu, the Bills’ website said Monday night.

A third-year pro from Alabama, Dareus notched career-highs in tackles (71) and sacks (7.5). He does not turn 24 until March.

Dareus, who was the No. 3 overall pick in 2011, joins Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams, defensive end Mario Williams and free safety Jairus Byrd on the Pro Bowl roster.

  1. wow really, get your head out of the sand and watch some other games outside your comfort zone. There are a lot of teams with pro bowlers outside of the media favorites!

  2. i always love to see which “injured” players pull out of the pro bowl the monday after the championship games. in some cases it says a lot about the character of the players.

  3. Sounds like a good chance to test Justin for PEDs. Dude is a beast but come on… nobody gets that strong just by lifting.

  4. “When did Justin get injured?”

A player does not have to be injured to pull out. The Pro Bowl is simply a bonus game for a few certain players. Older players who have long established their bank accounts long ago may prefer to start their vacation a week early to rest rather than play for a few extra dollars.

  5. No name recognition? He was the 3rd overall pick in the NFL draft.

The Bills don’t belong? They had the #7 defense in the league; 2nd in interceptions and sacks, only to Seattle…and THREE Bills defensive linemen had double-digit sacks! Kyle and Mario, and Jerry Hughes.

Yes, he doesn’t turn 24 until spring…meaning he is still developing.

    Do your homework.

    (Kiko Alonso belongs, as well.)

  6. At first, it bothered me that all the 49ers were dropping out of the Pro Bowl, but considering how they left it all out on the field in the NFC Championship, you have to give them props–they need to heal physically and emotionally.

Hopefully Bowman will be back next year to do it all over again (No sense letting the Cards or the Rams in on the party).
