On the first day of New England’s offseason, the club signed seven members of its practice squad to reserve/future contracts.
Six of the signees were rookies: offensive lineman Braxston Cave (Notre Dame), offensive tackle Jordan Devey (Memphis), wide receiver Reggie Dunn (Utah), offensive lineman R.J. Mattes (N.C. State), wide receiver Sam McGuffie (Rice) and linebacker Taylor Reed (Southern Methodist).
The Patriots also signed first-year wideout Greg Orton (Purdue) to a reserve/future deal.
The Patriots’ reserve/future signings of 2013 panned out relatively well. Fullback James Develin started six games for New England, while wide receiver Andre Holmes and linebacker Jeff Tarpinian started multiple games for the Raiders and Texans, respectively.
