Report: Tomsula could become Cleveland candidate

Tomsula

After Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks, the 49ers’ assistant coaches are available to be interviewed and hired for any remaining head-coaching jobs.

Unfortunately for the 49ers’ assistant coaches, it’s no longer plural.

Beyond the team’s offensive and defensive coordinator, Greg Roman and Vic Fangio, defensive line coach Jim Tomsula remains on the radar screen. According to Bill Williamson of ESPN.com, the Browns spent last week doing background work on Tomsula. He could become a candidate for the position.

Tomsula, who served as interim head coach of the 49ers after Mike Singetary was fired, received an interview from the Vikings the day before a playoff win at Carolina.

Many think the Browns are waiting to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase after the Super Bowl, or to conduct a second interview with Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

Meanwhile, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is now available to be offered the job, even though he has withdrawn his name from consideration. There’s nothing like a truckload of cash to get a guy to withdraw his withdrawal.
