Report: Lions interview Ken Zampese for offensive coordinator job

The Detroit Lions are still piecing together a coaching staff under new head coach Jim Caldwell.

It appeared as though the Lions had Bill Lazor lined up to fill their vacant offensive coordinator position before Lazor elected to head and join Joe Philbin’s staff with the Miami Dolphins instead.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions interviewed Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese for their offensive coordinator position on Monday.

Zampese, the son of former NFL coach Ernie Zampese, has served as the quarterbacks coach in Cincinnati since 2003. Zampese has also served as a coach for the St. Louis Rams (2000-02), Green Bay Packers (1999) and Philadelphia Eagles (1998).

For years, there’s been an attitude that opportunities for coaching and management in the NFL were limited because of strictly by race…

The misguided Rooney Rule was instituted as a remedy and compounded the problem by creating a “reverse discrimination” scenario…

In the past few years, evidence (news stories) have accumulated that shows that nepotism is more to the core of the problem that the NFL has in limiting opportunities to all who may be rightly qualified for coaching and management opportunities in the NFL…
