Tom Brady will not watch the Super Bowl

tombrady AP

The Super Bowl is America’s most-watched television show every year, but Patriots quarterback Tom Brady won’t be among the 100 million or more watching.

Brady said on WEEI that he doesn’t think he’d be able to enjoy tuning in to watch the Super Bowl as a fan, a week after his own team was eliminated with a loss to the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.

“I don’€™t have much of a rooting interest, truthfully,” Brady said. “Those games are hard to watch. I don’€™t really see myself sitting down to enjoy a football game to watch it. Our season’€™s over. Truthfully, I could care less about watching the game. That’€™s pretty much how I feel.”

So while you’re watching the Super Bowl, Brady will be watching Downton Abbey or True Detective instead.

  10. joestemme says: Jan 21, 2014 9:28 PM

    Pretty unprofessional, Tom.

Most everybody in life has to return to their job or see others get promoted even when they themselves have had a setback.

His right of course, but, still unprofessional.

  11. bleedburgandyandgold says: Jan 21, 2014 9:28 PM

If he did watch who do you think he would want to win?

  12. taintedsaints2009 says: Jan 21, 2014 9:29 PM

It’s really kind of an unintended slap in the face of all nfl fandom if you think about it. He’s basically saying, ‘why would I watch a football game I’m not playing in or not at all affected by?’

Oh boo hoo Brady, if it isn’t about You, you won’t do this and you won’t do that, grab yourself and grow up you crybaby. There is a lot more to life than growing up being all about hut 1, fix your hair on the left side, hut 2, fix your hair on the right side and if things dont go your way you are crying on the Bench! I wish I had your money? I was raised up as money doesn’t matter but you obviously one hundred percent think so! Get some real friends that don’t care about you for your money.

I’m sure people will say he is a sore loser, but I’m sure watching football isn’t the same for him as it is for the rest of us… It is work for those guys. Who wants to end 22 consecutive weeks of 60 hour work-weeks by watching other people do the same job?

Add in the fact that he really wishes it was him, and I can see why he wouldn’t enjoy watching the game.

  30. thestrategyexpert says: Jan 21, 2014 9:39 PM

I have a feeling the Nielsen results instead of being numbers they are just going to come out and say anybody that says they didn’t watch the Super Bowl we rate them to be liars.

Just record True Detective and watch it in place of the commercials and the half time show! And don’t talk about Richard Sherman’s game, or Woody Harrelson’s character’s wife. And most certainly don’t tell Matthew McConaughey’s character that you don’t have information about the crime he’s trying to solve when he has a hunch you do.

He is a horrible human being and the fact that Peyton would undoubtedly be watching is just one more reason that he is better. Come on Tom, be a constituent, or at least a fan of the game. I almost like you, but sadly I despise your more because of your materialistic, superficial, arrogant approach to both life and a sport I care dearly about.

  45. 2stix4et says: Jan 21, 2014 9:57 PM

Brady wont watch but his wife will. Maybe she’ll provide play by play to him while he’s knitting a sweater in the next room.Who cares, as if he is the end all be all.
I guess Denver’s security did not allow any suspicious people with cameras in their practices…LOL

    Tom who cares.

Tom Bray remembers the two losses he suffered against Eli Manning. Tom Brady is a sore loser and cannot handle that he lost to another Manning. He will find Mannings in his sleep. Toù Brady is such a baby and a sore loser. Grow up Pretty Boy!

  59. raiderlyfe510 says: Jan 21, 2014 10:19 PM

These are two old AFC west rivals. Hate both squads. Definitely not watching any Superbowl pre game shows these two weeks because I’m tired of Sherman.

Nothing against Sherman’s antics. When Prime time and Irvin were doing it they were entertaining. Sherman is just annoying like Terrrell Owens.

Good luck to Oakland’s Own Marshawn Lynch though. Beast Mode is real.

  68. luke8512 says: Jan 21, 2014 10:32 PM

I had a hard time watching they next several playoff games after my favorite team lost, so I couldn’t imagine being a player being so close to going to the Super Bowl and not making it. Then having to be reminded of it constantly with the nonstop media coverage for the next two weeks.
Being a Bengals fan I truly admire the job Brady and the pats did with the lack of talent on offense and the injuries to so many key players. Hopefully this offseason Bilechick realizes that Tom’s time is nearing the end and give him some true playmakers and not think he can just “coach up” and “scheme” his way to another Super Bowl. He may be one of if not the greatest coaches of all time but he needs to not let his own ego waste what little time Tom has.

  69. leatherface2012 says: Jan 21, 2014 10:35 PM

  76. eaglefan94 says: Jan 21, 2014 10:45 PM

The only reason this is getting such a negative reaction is because people don’t like Brady. I bet a lot of Pats/49ers players won’t watch it. After the ’08/’09 NFC title game when PHI lost to ARI, Brian Dawkins said he didn’t watch the Super Bowl and hadn’t watched more than a few minutes of any since being in the NFL. I don’t really blame Brady for not wanting to partake in three to four hours of “if only we’d have played better…”. Non-story.

  77. joecashflow says: Jan 21, 2014 10:45 PM

  78. jpak12 says: Jan 21, 2014 10:47 PM

A large number of NFL players have said they don’t watch football, and no one cares. Brady says he’s not going to watch the Superbowl, and it’s a huge deal lol…. If your not going to enjoy the game why force yourself to watch it when you could spend time with your wife and kids?

  79. fordmandalay says: Jan 21, 2014 10:47 PM

  81. nothingbuttthetruth says: Jan 21, 2014 10:50 PM

Makes perfect sense. What you die-hard NFL fans don’t realize is that this is A JOB for these players. Would you spend a Sunday watching someone else doing the job you do when there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING you could learn from it? Plus, Brady is an entertainer – but he’s not in the show – so why watch? Do you think Springsteen watches the Grammy’s or Leo watches the Oscars if they’re not nominated? Of course not!

There’s nothing wrong with him not wanting to watch the game. I’m sure there will be a ton of NFL players who aren’t gonna watch it. I’m sick of this “Brady’s a cry baby” crap. He is so far from a cry baby it’s unbelievable how people keep accusing him of it. Yes he’s always admitted that he isn’t good at losing, but really now all this pure seething hatred for the guy has gotta stop. It sounds like Brady just can’t win with the general public. If he wins he’s a cheater who apparently orchestrated the spying and videotaping. If he loses he’s sour grapes and a cry baby.

I’d hate to think he’s alone in the NFL.

I’d hope there’s other players with enough pride who set their goal to play at and win the Super Bowl who would find it difficult to watch.

Heck – if anything this illustrates just what a driven competitor Brady is – that it’s painful for him to watch someone else compete in the Super Bowl.

Most “fans” here seem to think that’s a bad thing – but I assure you, it’s not.

  100. cfballfan1 says: Jan 21, 2014 11:26 PM

Why oh why did I have to overthrow those passes!!!! Stupid Jan! stupid Jan Brady!! no no stupid Tom! I don’t get what the big deal is about him not watching the Superbowl.. if I lost a game that would have put my team in the big game I wouldn’t watch it either, its heartbreaking when you work so hard to get somewhere and come so close then come up short.. I’m just sayin

Every player in the league goes thru a lot of hard work to get to the SB. Brady just said what a lot if others probably do as well. It’s not about sportsmanship. It’s about taking a break to get your sanity back. People on these blogs voice their honest opinions. Brady’s response should be no different…an honest opinion. Yet he is scrutinized? Would you rather get the politically correct / vanilla response like “it’s an exciting game and both teams should be proud. As a professional I’ll be tuning in and hoping for a great game by both teams. Blah blah blah…”? I’m glad he had the guts to be honest.

Would y’all haters go and watch the guy who beat you out for the job you interviewed for? I admire him for being honest and showing how much he truly hates losing. I wonder about some guys, especially vets, padding their wallets, waiting out retirement. TB just told me he wants to be playing in that game very badly. THAT’S somebody I want to see in pro football, even if it’s not MY team.

btw… @bleedburgandyandgold, Peyton. This might be the only time in his career, but considering the opponent, he at least respects Peyton and knows he worthy. There’s no way he wants Seattle to win this IMHO.

Why is everyone piling on Brady?! The amount of focus and effort it takes to make this work is insane, and ultimately, it was for NOTHING. Second place hurts and excitement about anything beyond third is celebrating mediocrity. Walk a mile in his shoes, this is a career and he’s got blood sweat and tears in it, with his age becoming an issue soon, he knows he just lost another year. Criticize him for not celebrating the futility of his season, and impending end? Yeah… no.

Only opinion is that hes taking this too hard but only Pat fans and maybe Denver fans(get a kick outta it) would care. C’mon PFT lets get a little more serios please. “I could care less” = you actually do care because there is the potential of you caring even less.

You are a member of the National Football League. That and your ability to perform above average, hard work and good coaching, team. Mates and a great Franchise Owner has made you a very rich man. Not as rich as your wife but you did pretty good.

Even if you couldn’t bring yourself to watch the game… You owed it to the league, your team mates, the sponsor’s, the NFL fan’s and the future NFL player’s to promote the Big Game… My god man it is a national event. Your attitude on this issue is why Peyton Manning makes much more money in endorsement money than you do. He smiles big and gives everyone their do props. Peyton has made more money in endorsement income than you have made in the NFL. You wasted your pretty face…

If I was you… I would invite all of my wife’s hot friends over for a SB party and fire up my Big Green Egg and put on a great show for the ladies. They love it when guy can cook and tell good jokes. Hanging with the ladies is always a good time.

Think about this: Is it possible that he was sick with the flu? He (Tom) would NEVER make excuses for himself – unlike most of you idiots.
But how many of you get over the flu in one day? Most of you are so out of shape that it would take you weeks to shake it off.

For a man who Started 10-0 in the playoffs. With really no offensive talent around him. Terrific Tom is 8-8 in the playoffs. Hasn’t won a Super Bowl in 9 years. Had one of the most prolific offenses at 18-0. And only puts up 14 points and loses a Super Bowl. Loses another Super bowl With having Welker, Rob I’m going to be on the IR for the rest of my career Gronkowski, Aaron I rent cars and commit murders Hernandez. And Still loses. Tom Brady is a great QB one of the best ever. But he never get’s criticized. Cause of things he accomplished over a decade ago. In that time. BIG Ben has 2 rings, Rodgers 1, Breese1, Eli 2. Tom and Bill are the biggest sorest losers. You think if the Patriots Organization and Bill were so great they would build a team around there terrific QB. Instead they let Welker go cause he actually stood up to Bill. Now look Where was Danny I’m made of glass Amendola at? Andwho let all that happen??? Bill the cry baby. And Welker was open. He still could of caught it yes. Did anyone see terrific Tom over throw Eldelman wide open for TD in 3-0 game?? But, Now Bill is Saying Welkers hit on Talib is one of the dirtiest plays he’s seen? What!!!!! For a man who coached the Browns against the Steelers in some heated dirty dog fight games. And who coached Lawrence Taylor. That was one of the worst thing he’s seen? All you Pat fans in denial who doesn’t see that Your coach and your terrific Qb are sore losers? Hockey team defending eastern Champs. Still lost the big one.. and the Red Sox 200 million dollar roster better win a world series. And all your Division Stats for the Pats. Dang Must be tough playing the Bills and Dolphins and the Jets who had 2 good seasons in 10 years. You should have 12 division titles. and 7 AFC Championship appearances. Your still 3-4. least you still have Samual Adams Boston Lager to enjoy though. Oh wait ! That sucks too! Boston.. BOO!! # Spygate # Buys baseball pennants # BOO #

He actually typed the word “dang”! Then pulls out the # 2 hater excuse “they only win because of there division”.————-

I’m sorry Dang!! Should I have said CAAR? Look! These are facts. Brady has never lost under 10 games but once in his career. That was there year after your last Super Bowl win in 2004. I know it’s hard to think that far back. But if you add those 6 division games into there overall record yearly ? I repeat! The BILLS,Dolphins and Jets. That’s a guaranteed 6. Put your team in The NFC North NFC west AFC North. And Tom Brady who is today’s modern era Joe Namath. Who get’s more attention at red carpet events. I see him in People magazine covers more than sports covers. Elway ,Aikman, Montana, Young, Bradshaw, Staubach, All the greats won late in there career. If Terrific Tom retires in 3 years? That would make 12 years of nothing but stats. So DANG!!! That’s not hate! That’s Facts!

Sour grapes? You guys do know that means acting like you don’t want something you can’t get, when you really do what it.

So it would be sour grapes if he said “I’m not watching the SB because it’s not a big deal and I have to shovel snow anyway”. When he says “I’m not watching the SB because I want to be playing in it so badly” that is actually the opposite of sour grapes.

  194. soopreme says: Jan 22, 2014 11:13 AM

Spygate is becoming more and more evident as the years go by!!!!

  195. shlort says: Jan 22, 2014 11:15 AM

He is a crybaby because he won’t watch the game? I doubt that.

Look at it this way. Would you want to watch people doing the same job as you do? Just for fun? LOL

To call brady a baby when he says he won’t watch a football game is pretty stupid. He plays it, it is his job. If I played the game, I don’t know if I’d watch it either.

This year 4-2 in the division 8-2 outside the division.

And please don’t throw the AFC north his record vs that division since 2001 24-8 9-3 vs balt 7-3 vs pit 4-1 vs cin and 4-1 vs clev.

Oh and you know who else played in a weak division there entire career, Joe Montana! That division was horrible when they won all there SB.

So if you are going to try and discredit Brady because of the other teams in the division then you have to say the same about Montana.

And if you want to talk about “facts” you better check yours, the weakest division in the AFC since 2001 has not been the AFC east it has been the AFC South ( Mannings former division) so you must be taking credit from him too.

Sorry but the only way that excuse works is if they are winning 6 games every year in the division then winning 4 outside and backing in to the playoffs. But they are consistently the 1 or 2 seed not the 5th or 6th.

  197. tim8450 says: Jan 22, 2014 11:17 AM

Questioned asked, question answered. He doesn’t have to watch any games that he does not want to watch.

Richard Sherman, please… how can anyone root for this guy. Brady is also not personally responsible for every post game celebration by every one of his teammates over the years. You never saw Brady doing a lights-out dance or whatever… btw, whatever happen to that guy?

No team has a better record than the Pats for the past 20 years. No QB has played in more playoff games, including before and after spygate, and no QB has played in more superbowls and conference championships during Tom Brady’s career than Tom Brady. Complaining about his win-loss record in the playoffs when he plays in more playoff games than anyone? The dude competes in more playoff games than anyone, period.

Enjoy your vacation Tom with your family and your supermodel wife. You deserve a break and you’ve earned it. Rest up for next year so you can win your division for a record 14th time and compete for another chance for a 6th Superbowl.

H8rs gonna hate but he is the best, the greatest of all time and there is no one that Pats fans would rather have leading our team.

  198. jmblosser82 says: Jan 22, 2014 11:18 AM

Crybaby, he is taking his ball and going home. At least we only have a few more years to watch this guy cry about not winning.

  199. jeremycrowhurst says: Jan 22, 2014 11:29 AM

I could understand Crabtree saying he didn’t feel he could watch the game. His team, at least, was close to being there. But the Patriots – Broncos game was only close for the first 20 minutes or so.

Brady says he respects Manning, and Wes Welker is supposed to be his friend. The right move is to promote the sport and say, “I’ll be cheering for my buddies, and hoping for a great game.”

    Rare classless move by Brady.

  200. swesson57 says: Jan 22, 2014 11:33 AM

If I was married to Giselle, I wouldn’t watch the Super Bowl either!

  201. cspsrbums says: Jan 22, 2014 11:33 AM

Who really cares whether or not he watches, your are so pathetic for even asking him that question. Who is he to ask ? Might as well ask me, but again who cares if I watch, it get my drift. But he is lying he will sit and watch the game.

  202. xxsweepthelegxx says: Jan 22, 2014 11:34 AM

Fun Fact. You know who has the most playoff losses in MLB history……The NYY…..yup, the team with the most wins, has the most post season losses as well.

It’s not rocket science folks…much the NYY (pains me to even type that) the Pats have lost a lot in the playoffs because they MAKE the playoffs a lot.

The goal for EVERY team is to obviously win the big game, but there is no shame in coming up short. The fact that Brady and hte Pats are “in the running” every year is all a fan can ask for.

“Hasn’t won since spygate.” To you pathetic fanbase losers, so when Eli was “in the grasp” and Tyree caught a ball off his helmet I’m assuming the Pats old use of cameras would have prevented that right?

  203. 7mantel says: Jan 22, 2014 11:35 AM

He should be used to losing ! Patriots only win against weak AFC teams ! How many years has it been ?

  204. artvan15 says: Jan 22, 2014 11:42 AM

    So what? Neither will I.

  205. all4patriots says: Jan 22, 2014 11:45 AM

news flash: Lots of NFL players work very hard at their jobs and it is a huge and long mental and physical grind. When it’s over, they need a break.

Lots of them aren’t big football fans either. It’s their JOB. Even if they love that job, it doesn’t mean that they will just hang out and watch others doing the same job.

If you were a great pizza chef who worked 14 hour days all of the time and then took a vacation, would you be going out for pizza on your vacation? Not really.

I don’t even “get” why this crap gets reported, except to bring out the Patriots haters.

  206. wackoflaccoisoverpaid says: Jan 22, 2014 11:46 AM

It doesn’t matter buddy! My whole points are. Brady is a baby. He pouts so much! Look what he did in Carolina and on the sidelines a lot this year. It’s BS he gets nothing but praise constantly for a decade ago memories . He is are generations Joe Namath. I’m just hoping Manning wins. Cause all trash talk you Pats fans do. The guy who couldn’t beat you? Is doing what all the legends did winning the big one late in there career. And I hate that know one brings up the fact of how the Pats 3 Super Bowl teams had great defenses. Look at Brady’s stats in the Super Bowls. Nothing great. he didn’t have to. Just clutch on the last drive of all 3. never said he wasn’t one of the Best ever! But 8-8 in the playoffs in 9 years since the team has been on his shoulders. Gets wiped away! Cause it’s Tom Brady! Manning has got knocked constantly for losing in the playoffs. He wins ? he has 1 less ring. So I’m done! Brady and Billy are the biggest cry baby’s in the NFL. Stay Classy Boston! It PAYS to win in Boston!

  207. bravovictor52 says: Jan 22, 2014 12:25 PM

Ridiculous. What he does on his time is his business. But this shows just how narcissistic he is. It also shows a disrespect for the game and the fans. Brady, you’re done for the year. Shut-up and we’ll root for you next year.

  208. n2thaizzo says: Jan 22, 2014 12:31 PM

“I don’t think I watched [the Super Bowl that year],” Peterson said. “We gave that one away. We gave a championship away. The NFC Championship Game was pretty much the Super Bowl that year.

Via Adrian Peterson from an article on the 4 letter network’s website. Can’t believe the # of people calling Brady a sore loser because he won’t watch the SB. Yall are Brady (Patriots) haters!

  209. slayerswine says: Jan 22, 2014 3:04 PM

Sore loser won’t watch the game.
The Superbowl won’t have Tom Brady in it.
THAT is how I like it. No cheaters, whiners, and murderers.

Wah Wah Wah…Too bad Ed Reed didn’t beat the BS out of that conman in last year’s AFC Championship.

  210. jctone says: Jan 22, 2014 3:16 PM

If you are a player, you don’t like to be a spectator. Brady has Gisselle.

If you had Giselle, would you be watching the game or spending time with her?

People who actually play sports do not like to watch sports unless they had for training purposes.

  211. melikefootball says: Jan 22, 2014 4:03 PM

arrogance at its best, maybe Tommy and Giselle can watch reruns of House. SNAP!

  212. dcstinks says: Jan 22, 2014 4:48 PM

#crymeariver Tom! Crybaby. Im taking my ball and going home!

  213. mustang6984 says: Jan 23, 2014 6:00 PM

No surprise…we in the Seahawk world learned a long time ago that Brady has a big mouth, small brain and no class. Ripping on someone at 1/2 time, but unable to take the end result at close of game..sort of ruins your fantasy world eh Tom?

Since he’s not watching, does that mean that we wont have to hear any comments from him from now until the 1st pre-season game?

  214. edithpiaf51 says: Jan 24, 2014 2:32 AM

I am a Bronco fan so my team is in there. I still think that Tom Brady is a cry baby, immature, classless idiot. I remember when the Giants beatthe Pats in superbowl in 2012. Before that Brady made fun of Eli Manning’s clothes. Because Eli has class, he never even answered Brady. He just let Brady shoot off his diarrhea mouth.

  215. johnnycantread says: Jan 24, 2014 6:46 PM

If he’s not going to watch the Super Bowl, what will he watch? A videotape, perhaps?

  216. thestatsishere says: Jan 24, 2014 9:27 PM

I can sympathize, but if you’re really Peyton Manning’s friend, then you’d watch it Tom.

And I doubt he’ll be watching TV as much as playing with his son. If I was him, that’s what I’d do. Once work is over, you spend time with family!

  217. quackbury says: Jan 25, 2014 2:02 PM

Saying “I want to watch the SB that I’m not playing in” would be a lot like saying “I want to watch the porn tape my hot ex-GF made with her new husband.”

Tom’s got his priorities right. He and Gisele will have more fun making their own porn tape on Sunday.

  218. stainlesssteeler says: Jan 28, 2014 3:34 AM

A sincere shame. I have never been a Brady fan, but I would also never condemn him in print. He has certainly earned his place in NFL history, but this is disappointing from a man who is one of the faces of the NFL. It shows a complete lack of respect for his profession and a lack of maturity. I could not be more disappointed in his actions as an NFL fan. Someday he may understand being a leader is not about him, it is about your team, and his team is not only the Patriots, but the NFL. It is a sad day for young children everywhere who actually look to him as a role model, great message Mr. Brady.

  219. sportnik2 says: Jan 28, 2014 1:02 PM

Tom Brady isn’t going to watch the superbowl. The horror! Send him to the gallows for this slight to American culture!

The reaction here is way over the top. The guy can do whatever he wants with his free time. This board was less offended by Aaron Hernandez’s actions than Brady’s comments. You all need to get a life.

  220. lunarpie says: Jan 28, 2014 1:19 PM

TUCK RULE got you where you’re at Tommy!! Go whine to Belichek and get him to start Spy Gate up again so you can win next time you cry baby!!!!

  221. flyermb says: Jan 28, 2014 1:43 PM

Ok Tom. Now go scream at a ref some more.

  222. lanman11 says: Jan 28, 2014 3:16 PM

Why all the fuss? Tom has watched plenty of Super Bowls. Heck, he plays in half of them!

I can see how with all the fan fare and pageantry and garbage programming that as a player that has been to the mountain top many times, sitting around watching like an observer would be less than enjoyable. I’m sure he will watch it on tape, without all the hoopla, after the fact.

There are so many PC Wussy Boys on this site it’s getting harder and harder to be seen around here.

  223. brazzz01 says: Jan 28, 2014 3:55 PM

Oh no the horror! Tom Brady isn’t watching the Super Bowl!1!1!1! Cancel the game NOW!!!

LOL @ all the limp wristed skirt wearing Patriot hating sissies who give more than two farts about what Tom Brady does with his free time.

  224. eaglesnoles05 says: Jan 28, 2014 6:31 PM
