The Dolphins’ general manager search is reportedly set to move into its next phase this weekend.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins will interview at least two finalists for the job and there’s optimism around the team that they will have a general manager in place early next week. Per Salguero, the team is calling the candidates who have interviewed for the job to invite them back for another round or thank them for their time.

One man they won’t have to call is Jason Licht, who became the G.M. in Tampa this week. Licht interviewed with the Dolphins and there were reports they made a run at hiring him before he took that job, although Salguero reports that the Dolphins had only informed Licht that they were interested in having him back for the final round.

Licht took the sure thing, leaving the Dolphins with six candidates who have interviewed for the job. They are Titans exec Lake Dawson, Bucs exec Dennis Hickey, Lions exec Brian Xanders, Steelers exec Omar Khan, Browns exec Ray Farmer and current Dolphins assistant G.M. Brian Gaine.

A single tweet — “Before #Bucs struck a deal with new GM Jason Licht, I’m told the #Dolphins found out about TB’s interest & made a late attempt to hire Licht” — now qualifies as “reports”? And, it turns out, he was “told” wrong.

None of those finalist would happen to be Jerry Jones, would it?

Come on, we’ll let you have him cheap!

I was hoping the rumors about Dawn Apponte getting hired by the league office were true. That would alleviate the weird dynamic that Miami has in it’s organizational structure. I think we are looking at either a Xanders or Farmer hire. People really hate Scott Pioli but with the exception of Matt Castle he brought a-lot of talent to KC. I do not understand why Miami did not at least interview the guy.

No real WOW factor with any of those names. Hate to say it but the guy they had was better than any guy so far.

If they hire Jeff Ireland’s right hand man, why did they bother to fire Ireland in the first place?

If they hire Gaines or that guy from Tampa, I’m done. What little hope I had when they canned the GM and the OC is quickly evaporating.

Ray Farmer shows the most promise. Good rep as an evaluator and respected in personnel circles.

Why is everyone so worried we don’t have a GM in place for Senior Bowl. Ireland was at every one and what did that get us?

Down to the final two. Kind of like the Super Bowl of managment candidates. Well, kind of…
