Report: Reggie Herring joining Bears staff

The Bears defense needs to be better in 2014 and they have reportedly settled on a new linebackers coach to help them reach that goal.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports that the Bears will hire Reggie Herring as their linebackers coach. Herring would replace Tim Tibesar, who was relieved of his duties after the end of the regular season. The Bears retained defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, but also parted ways with defensive line coach Mike Phair.

Herring spent the last three years as the linebackers coach in Houston, but lost his job along with all but one of their 2013 coaches when Bill O’Brien took over as the team’s head coach. Herring spent the three years before that in the same role with the Cowboys, who also had current Bears special teams coach Joe DeCamillis on their staff at that time.

Paul Pasqualoni, the former Syracuse and Connecticut head coach, also spent a year on that Cowboys staff and he’s reportedly joining the team as well. The defensive line opening has not been filled since Phair was dismissed.
