Report: Titans to hire John McNulty as quarterbacks coach

When Ken Whisenhunt was first hired as the head coach of the Titans, there was some talk that John McNulty coming aboard as offensive coordinator was “just about a sure thing.”

That turned out not to be the case as Jason Michael came over from San Diego to become the offensive coordinator in Tennessee. It looks like McNulty will still wind up on Whisenhunt’s staff.

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that McNulty has agreed to become the team’s quarterbacks coach but that the deal hasn’t been announced because the contract is still being finalized. McNulty spent the 2013 season working with Mike Glennon in Tampa and was the quarterbacks coach for Whisenhunt in Arizona before the Cardinals decided they didn’t want Whisenhunt to be their coach anymore.

McNulty’s hiring would continue a trend that has seen Whisenhunt hire assistants he’s familiar with from past stops in Arizona, San Diego and Pittsburgh, although he has retained a few members of Mike Munchak’s staff as he fills out his first Titans staff.
