Vikings hire Jerry Gray as secondary coach

Jerry Gray AP

Jerry Gray is heading to Minnesota.

Gray, who has spent the last three seasons as the Titans’ defensive coordinator, will now be the Vikings’ secondary coach, according to Alex Marvez of FOX Sports.

Although Gray hasn’t previously worked with new Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, he’s a well-regarded assistant who has coached defensive backs in Seattle and Washington, and he has also been the defensive coordinator of the Bills, and the assistant head coach of the Texas Longhorns.

The 51-year-old Gray played defensive back in the NFL for nine years and was a four-time Pro Bowler.

Another very impressive signing by the Vikings. He was a great Dback and he served as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills from 2001 to 2005, where he oversaw one of the top defenses in the NFL until his final season. The Bills ranked 2nd in total defense in both 2003 and 2004. Great hire!!

Titans defense didn’t improve until Gregg Williams was brought in. Before that, Gray’s defense was the worst in franchise history. Good luck, Vikes, and good riddance, Jerry.

Good grief … The staff the Titans are putting together right now is far and away more than anything Munch had to work with. Jerry Gray will be a good DB coach, but he doesn’t deserve anything more considering his work with the Titans. Playing safeties 15 yards deep every play is a horrible scheme and we , as Titans fans, had to endure it for 3 years. Thank God we have Bud’s successor willing to pay for a good staff, I’m just kind of afraid that Zygi might be going cheap on his staff in purple.

I can’t believe Greg Williams was even allowed back into coaching.

He is a solid hire but in regards to his time in Buffalo everyone seems to forget the year when the D was at it best there was a guy names Dick Labeau on the coaching staff too
