Adrian Peterson scheduled for groin surgery on Thursday

We heard Wednesday that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson would have groin surgery at some point in the near future to repair the injury that bothered him for much of the 2013 season.

The future appears to be now. Josina Anderson of ESPN had the initial report about Peterson’s pending surgery and she reports that Peterson is having the surgery on Thursday.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. William Meyers, who also performed sports hernia surgery on the Vikings running back after the 2012 season. That makes three straight offseasons with surgery for Peterson, who also had his torn ACL operated on after the 2011 season.

This surgery isn’t expected to require anything close to the kind of rehab that Peterson needed after that surgery and no one has voiced any concern that his readiness for training camp is going to be adversely affected by the surgery.

The process of breaking down has begun for the great AP

Diminishing returns. Too late too trade him now, too. Lots of holes on that offense.

    He’s done!

Yeah, he’s done. It’s all over. May as well release him. Sheesh, he gained 1,300 yards with a bad ankle, a balky groin, and a revolving door at QB. Next year there won’t be a better RB in the NFL — just like previous years.

The guy is a beast, but surgery is becoming a routine part of his off-season.

I think his style of play is going to catch up with him. Yes he will recover faster than anyone. Its taking a toll on him though.

RB is one of the positions where skills can diminish extremely fast. He won’t be anywhere near as effective 3 years from now. He needs to be on a team that can compete for a SB.

Barry Sanders deserved it, and so does AP.

Nothing major, say takes like a montth of recovery. So he’ll be working out in a couple weeks. Gonna have to start playnig smarter though. Dont need to tromp somebody every run, go down or out of bounds man.

Personally I think Peterson will play 6 more seasons and break Emmitt Smith rushing record. Whenever he retires you should all send him a thank you card because he is the best RB you will witness in your lifetime

Looks like the first couple ppl are packers and are jealous of him running 200 yards a game on them or they dont watch football.

I laugh at all these “He’s done” & “His body is breaking down” comments. According to the know-it-alls, he was supposed to be done & was never going to be the same after tearing both his ACL & MCL. With much respect to McCoy, Lynch, Alfred Morris & Jamaal Charles, AP is still the best RB in the bizz. He’s far from being done.
