Cowboys extend kicker Dan Bailey through 2020

Dan Bailey AP

The Cowboys are planning to have Dan Bailey as their kicker for years to come.

Bailey has signed a contract through the 2020 season that will pay him an average of more than $3 million a season, the team’s website reports.

The 25-year-old Bailey, who has played all three of his NFL seasons in Dallas, was set to become a restricted free agent. The Cowboys’ front office had said it was confident a new deal would get done before the start of free agency.

Bailey was fourth in the league in field goal percentage last season, making 28 of his 30 attempts with a long of 53 yards. He’s also strong on kickoffs, with 52 of his 93 kicks going for touchbacks, a 55.9 percent rage that was good for 10th in the league.

He’s a great kicker. Why not lock him up? The devil is in the details of the contract…guarantees and all. Signing a K to a 7 year deal isn’t crazy as you can cut his a** after 2 if you want to.

    So is the NFL way.

Why not? Dan Bailey is Clutch.
And any true Cowboys fan knows the decade before him a 30 yard field goal wasnt guaranteed.

Bailey’s a good kicker, but in my opinion, you should actually field a respectable defense before you pay a kicker this amount of money. With a defense like the cowboys, you’re going to need TDs not FGs…piss

That’s pretty cool…..this signing puts the cowboys at about 141 mill for next year (top 51 salaries). 15 mill over the cap without even counting the draft….god job there Jerry.

For all of you complaining about being at the max cap may I remind you John Mara fleeced them and the Redskins out of millions of spending dollars.
