Jake Long had his ACL surgery

Rams left tackle Jake Long tore his ACL and MCL in late December, forcing him to wait until the MCL healed before he could have the surgery needed to repair the other torn ligament.

It was expected to take four to six weeks for the MCL to heal enough for the operation and things progressed on the faster end of that timeframe. Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Long recently had the ACL surgery and will begin the rehab process.

Long will likely do some of that rehab alongside quarterback Sam Bradford, who is recovering from his own ACL tear. Those are two pretty significant pieces of the St. Louis offense, so the pace of their rehab will have much to do with how close to full strength the Rams will be once they get to camp.

The Rams may need to address the tackle spot this offseason to cover themselves in the event that Long isn’t ready to go because Rodger Saffold is a free agent who could move on once he hits the open market.
