The Packers have lost one long-time offensive assistant this offseason, but they don’t have to lose another if they choose.
According to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Packers could block a team from trying to hire running backs coach Alex Van Pelt since he remains under contract through 2014.
Quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo, whose contract had expired, was able to jump to the Giants as offensive coordinator.
There have been reports linking Van Pelt as a possibility to work for Mike Pettine if he gets the Browns head coaching job.
But Van Pelt could also shift over to his natural position as well. The former Bills quarterback makes the most sense to replace McAdoo, so the Packers may be inclined to prevent his moving on.
