The Redskins appear close to adding to their front-office, and bringing back an old hero in the process.
According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, it appears likely that former quarterback Doug Williams is about to join the front office in some capacity.
“There’s a great possibility Doug will be going to the Redskins,” his source said. “I think there’s a very good chance of that.”
This one is connect-the-dots perfect, on many levels.
Williams worked for Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen in the Buccaneers front office previously, and has the perfect Redskins background (as Super Bowl XXII MVP).
The 58-year-old Williams has been out of football since being fired by Grambling in September.
Frankly, if all he ever did was wear team-issued gear and cut ribbons at grocery store grand openings, it would still be a good move for the Redskins. But Williams has sufficient experience that it doesn’t have to be just a ceremonial hire, but a smart one.
