Report: Alex Van Pelt to remain in Green Bay as quarterbacks coach

There have been reports that the Browns would be interested in hiring Packers running backs coach Alex Van Pelt as their offensive coordinator if they hired Mike Pettine as their head coach.

Pettine was named the new head coach of the Browns on Thursday, but it doesn’t look like Van Pelt will be making the move from Wisconsin to Ohio. Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports reports that Van Pelt will remain in Green Bay and take over for Ben McAdoo, who is now the Giants’ offensive coordinator, as the team’s quarterbacks coach.

Van Pelt was a quarterback in his playing days, spending most of his NFL time with Buffalo, and has served as a quarterbacks coach for the Bills and Buccaneers before joining the Packers staff. Van Pelt has a year left on his deal, so the Packers are not required to permit him to interview for an offensive coordinator job.

It’s not known who else might be on the Browns’ radar for the offensive coordinator position, although they’ll likely move a bit quicker than they did during their search for a head coach.
