A jury has sentenced former Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent to 180 days in jail for his role in the death of teammate Jerry Brown.
According to Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas, Brent was given a 10 year sentence, but it was suspended, and he’ll be placed on probation. He was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine.
Brent was convicted of intoxication manslaughter Wednesday for the crash that claimed the life of Brown, his college teammate at Illinois and a member of the Cowboys practice squad.
Brown’s family was quick to forgive Brent for his role, and for a crime that could have carried a 20-year prison term, it seems the legal system shared their view.
