Ravens add Jim Hostler to second interview list

The Ravens appear to have carved their list to three for their vacant offensive coordinator job.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Ravens wide receivers coach Jim Hostler will get a second interview for the job, along with the previously reported second meetings for former Redskins coordinator Kyle Shanahan and Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson.

That apparently excludes former Lions coordinator Scott Linehan, who does not have a second interview scheduled.

Hostler has been on staff since 2008, so coach John Harbaugh knows him well. His existing relationship with quarterback Joe Flacco could also be a boost.

He only has one year of play-calling experience, with the 49ers in 2007, when they finished last in the league in total offense.

  1. So the only time he’s been OC he had the worst offense in the league, and as WR coach he’s helped coach one guy into being a 1k yard receiver. Tell me again why Hostler is being considered to run the entire offense?

  2. Harbaugh wants this guy. A lot of us (Ravens fans) don’t because he’s Harbaugh’s guy. Harbaugh ruined his creditability by getting rid of good players that stood up to him and by bringing in Castillo.

  3. Yamon Figures, Mark Clayton, Kelley Washington, Tandon Doss, Deonte Thompson, Marcus Smith, Justin Harper, David Reed are all players the Ravens drafted or signed as OFA who did nothing under Hostler’s tuteledge.

Anquan Boldin, Derick Mason – The two most successful WR to have played under Hostler were studs before they got to the Ravens and before they worked with Hostler.

Torrey Smith turned in a 1,000 yard performance in 2013 but also was MIA in multiple games.

This guy cannot develop WR why does Harbs think he can develop a game plan?

SInce winning the Super Bowl, Harbaugh rid his team of players who question him, retained his buddy Juan Castilio and now has been trying to get Hostler as OC. Harbaugh won playing within a system. Now, since he won Harbaugh wants to change said system, Hostler would be a disaster as OC.

  4. I imagine Kirby Wilson stumbled when asked if it’s possible to go from an 8-8 season to a winning one. All those years of disappointment with the Steelers will break a man. Hostler has more experience with actually winning games as opposed to making excuses and blaming refs which is where the Steelers’ consistently lead the league.

  5. You fans are all being too hard on Hostler for not developing his WR’s. It’d only be justified if he’s the one who actually drafted Flacco. Which, given the dysfunction, I wouldn’t be surprised if a position coach had the final say draft-day.

Funny comment coming from the most penalized D in the league. Hope Hostler has a better whining face then Harbag because he needs to be more effective than Whinebaugh. Kirby, take the job and show them how it’s done right and why Ozzie has modeled the team after the steelers.

  7. execution of the play is the most importat. no matter how good is the coaching but the players are lousy, it won’t turn into score. I would go to kirby.

  8. To all the ravens fans I continuously annoy and harass:
I pray that you and your families were far away from the mall today. We may disagree about football, but when it comes to life, we probably all agree that these coward shooters really suck.
