Report: Brian Gaine likely to leave Dolphins

The Dolphins reportedly offered their general manager job to a few different people before Dennis Hickey filled the post on Sunday, but none of them were the team’s assistant G.M. Brian Gaine.

Gaine interviewed for the job a couple of times and was a finalist for the post before being passed over. As a result, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Gaine is not likely to remain with the team over the long term.

Per Salguero, the Dolphins would like to retain Gaine but he understands that there’s no “real chance” for advancement in Miami. It’s hard to argue with that point of view since the team didn’t make him their general manager now and it seems he was a fallback option in the event that all of the Dolphins’ preferred candidates turned them down.

That came close to happening, but it sounds like Gaine is set to follow his old boss Jeff Ireland out of Miami now that there’s a new sheriff in town.
