New Jersey politician wants to remind you he’s from New Jersey

It didn’t take long for the first inferiority complex to rear its head at the Super Bowl.

During his introductory press conference last night, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll referenced coming back to New York, where he worked for one year as Jets coach.

The next voice heard wasn’t a reporter.

“Coach, I just want to say something. I’m Rich Boggiano with the city council,” he said, via Mike Vorkunov of the Newark Star-Ledger. “You said you’re glad to be back in New York, I just want to remind you, you’re in New Jersey.”

Carroll jumped in at those point, apologizing with a “My bad.”

“Even when you’re at the Jets, you know we were the New York Jets but we were playing in New Jersey so that’s always been an issue,” Carroll said. “I understand. I appreciate it. Sorry it came out that way.”

Boggiano is a first year city councilman from Jersey City, went to the press conference to defend his home turf (and maybe, just possibly, to attract attention to himself, which he’s now done.)

“I didn’t want to embarass him,” he said of Carroll. “But, . . .”

So let that be a lesson to you all, Super Bowl attendees. Don’t forget to include New Jersey. They’re obviously sensitive there.
