Report: Gary Kubiak “favorite” for Ravens offensive coordinator

Reports out of Baltimore this weekend had Ravens coach John Harbaugh meeting with an unidentified candidate for the offensive coordinator job while also having conversations with former Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, that mystery candidate was Dennison’s former boss Gary Kubiak. Per Schefter, Kubiak is the “favorite” to take the position.

Kubiak’s entry into the search throws a wrench in reports that the team was closing in on a hire between current wide receivers coach Jim Hostler and former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Kubiak’s name previously came up in relation to the opening for a coordinator with the Browns, a hiring that was deemed “unlikely.” Part of the reason why is that Kubiak will be paid by Houston through the 2014 season, but the opportunity with the Ravens may prove to be more enticing.

Kubiak, Dennison and Kyle Shanahan all worked under Mike Shanahan at various points in their careers so there may be a possibility that more than one of them wind up in Baltimore as the Ravens try to jolt their offense back to life in 2014.
