Brett Keisel: I have a couple of years left in me

When the Steelers season was winding down, defensive end Brett Keisel said that he would sit down with his family and whether he would return for a 13th NFL season.

On Tuesday, though, Keisel sounded like a man who had made up his mind when it comes to what he’d like to do in 2014.

“I think I’ve got a couple [years] left in me,” Keisel said during an appearance with Scott Van Pelt and Ryan Russillo. “I feel great and still feel like I can play. We’ll see what happens.”

The big question for Keisel is whether he’s willing to leave Pittsburgh in order to play those seasons. Keisel is headed for free agency and much talk in Pittsburgh has focused on the need for the Steelers to get younger on defense. If they do choose to go that route, Keisel, who has said he plans to live in Pittsburgh after his career is over, will have to choose whether he’s willing to start learning a new system at this point in his career.

“The Beard” will retire as a Steeler. Write it down!

Come to Green Bay. Same scheme, and unlike the Steelers, they NEED vets on defense.

I hear his beard tested positive for HGH.

Sign him 1 year at a time and rotate the D-line like the new trend in the NFL. This guy is a great mentor and an even better guy. Not a bad career for a 7th rounder who was nearly cut by Cowher his rookie season.

Oh, and the HGH beard comment was just plain stupid – not funny.

His next career as a pitchman for Head & Shoulders can wait a few years.

If he continues to play between 6-8 games per year, then I would say he does have a few years left in him…

Kiesel’s play was more than worthy of a re-signing. I hope we keep him.

The Diesel is a locker room leader too. How do you not love the Diesel???

He’ll be back as long as he agrees to qualifying vet minimum contract. Possibly something similar to the contract signed by Larry Foote last year.

I can’t see another team offering significantly more cash or playing time.

I think the Steelers such sign him1 year at a time, he has been a great d-lineman. Look at this past year he had a good yearon a mediocre defense. Fear the beard.

Thanks for the memories it’s time to move on. Why keep losing young talented players off your practice squad because you keep the aging vets past their time. No need for a 1 year contract it’s time for the next wave of Steelers to shine.

I wish that we could keep him for at least another year, but the Steelers want backups to play special teams and I don’t know that he would sign up for that.
