Carroll on rattling Manning: It’s all but impossible, but we’ll see

petecarroll

Peyton Manning may be the best quarterback ever at seeing what the opposing defense is doing and getting the ball away before the pass rush gets to him. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says that if they’re going to beat the Broncos on Sunday, they’re going to have to get to Manning.

“It’s really about his timing, is decision making,” Carroll said. “We have to rush the passer. We have to get him off the spot. We have to try to move him. And to get to him we have to cover very well, to make him go to his second or third receiver. That gives us a chance.”

Manning has thrown 79 passes so far in the postseason and hasn’t been sacked once, so Carroll knows that getting to Manning is not easy. But the Seahawks will try.

“It’s all but impossible, based on the numbers and what it looks like, but we’re going to see if we can do that,” Carroll said.

If the Seahawks can’t get to Manning, they may be in for a long day on Sunday.
