Clay Matthews had pins removed from thumb last week

Packers linebacker Clay Matthews missed the final week of the regular season and the Wild Card loss to San Francisco after surgery to repair his broken right thumb, which involved inserting pins to immobilize the thumb.

Those pins have been removed. Matthews, who missed four games after breaking the same thumb in Week Four, said he had the pins out last Friday is ready to start moving forward with his rehab.

“I need to get healthy. Rehab my thumb and get it back to 100 percent so that way there is no setback starting next season,” Matthews said, via FOX Sports. “Little exercises as far as finger mobility. I have a physical therapist who helps with loosening up those joints because it was immobilized for so long. A lot of those ligaments and tendons become real stiff along with the surgery.”

There’s plenty of time for Matthews to work on the thumb before the Packers will be back on the field for offseason work and even more before training camp so there’s not much reason for concern about his readiness on those fronts. Finding a way to keep him there for all of next season would be a welcome development in Green Bay.

And during the period of time they were inside of him, the pins packed on a solid five pounds of muscle from the HGH in his system.

Thumb surgery and rehabilitation just has to be better than groin surgery and rehab.

He’s missed 11 out of a possible 80 games in 5 years. And he’s only getting older. Wanna bet the rest of his career will be even worse in regards to injuries. His nickname should be “Horrible Hammy”.

Now he should grimace a little less when he’s putting his Super Bowl ring on.

The Vikings would probably lose 10 games in the CFL as well. Worst team ever.

CMIII will be fine, although if he reads the post above “Minnysoda Vikqueens personified = Barney Fife”, I suspect he will end up scratching his goldi-locked head trying to figure out both the structure and meaning of the sentence. That is, of course, after he marvels at the unique, clever and original spellings of the words Minnesota and Vikings.

The Viking fans can talk, they have all those Super Bowl titles to back them up……..oh wait?

Clay “Nails” Matthews and “Iron” Aaron Rodgers will be hosting their annual Tough Man Camp again this year. Participants will learn how to milk an injury for as long as possible to avoid the remote possibility that they may feel some discomfort during a game. Tea will be served precisely at 10:00.

I’d like for a more detailed story on this. I’ve heard that it is the same injury as before, possibly even the same break line. If that is the case, what’s that mean for the likelihood of it happening again?Seems like it was suppsoedly healed already, only to fail. Sounds like it could be a career ending injury if the bone isn’t ever to heal correctly. Or maybe not. But seems like a legitimate question to be asked and answered.
