Delanie Walker: Six or seven Titans players were cancers in 2013

The Titans made a coaching change at the end of the regular season, firing Mike Munchak and replacing him with Ken Whisenhunt.

It will be a bit longer before they can start making changes to the roster, but tight end Delanie Walker thinks the team is in need of some. During an interview with 104.5 The Zone, Walker said he felt there were a group of six or seven players on the 2013 team that dragged the rest of the group down because their effort and attitude became a “cancer” on the team.

“Most definitely. When we started losing more games, you got to see it more and more,” Walker said. “It was falling apart and the players that were the cancer were dragging other players into that box with them and the box was getting bigger and bigger.”

Walker said he thought those players were the biggest reason why Munchak, who he spoke to about his feelings, was fired. While he wouldn’t name them, the tight end also said he thought it would be obvious to Whisenhunt and the other coaches which players were lacking when they watched film and that he feels Whisenhunt is the type of coach that will want to get them off the roster.

Walker will be joining Pro Football Talk on NBCSN at 5:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, so we may get some more insight into what went wrong for the Titans this season.

I think CJ and Britt were definitely in the group. Very curious to know the others.

Well, I’m sure you can start with the tailback who demands a bigger contract every time he runs for more than 4 yards…

Yep, I recall vividly, halfway through the season, when no-nonsense safety Bernard Pollard told the media we had a cancer in the locker room. Jake Locker’s injury was the first blow. This news from Pollard was the second and it’s when I knew the season was probably lost.

I’m guessing Kenny Britt and Chris Johnson were two of those guys, so they probably already have a head start

Kenny Britt was likely one of them.

I love Delanie Walker as a player. It’s like Jared Cook never existed.

Shonn Greene has to be in that group. He was a cancer in the Jets locker room, too.
