Broncos practice inside Thursday, hope to be outdoors Friday

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning talks with head coach John Fox during their practice session for the Super Bowl at the New York Jets Training Center in Florham Park Reuters

After practicing outside on Wednesday, the Broncos moved back indoors on Thursday because head coach John Fox didn’t want his players on a surface he deemed too hard.

“We just came indoors because it was softer,” Fox told Jarrett Bell of USA Today, who filed the daily practice report for the Pro Football Writers of America. “So, really, it was more for the players’ legs more than anything. The field got a little hard yesterday.”

According to Bell, Peyton Manning did some work outside with the club’s other quarterbacks on Thursday.

Broncos punter Britton Colquitt and kicker Matt Prater tested the elements at MetLife Stadium, the Super Bowl game site, on Wednesday. In Bell’s report, Fox noted that the MetLife surface played to a good review.

“They’re doing whatever they can to keep it from freezing,” Fox said of MetLife’s turf.

For their final full practice of the week on Friday, the Broncos would like to practice outside at the Jets’ facility. The field was covered on Thursday and was being heated.

Said Fox of the outdoors field: “They’re going to heat it up a little bit. Kind of like they’re doing at MetLife now. We’ll be back out there tomorrow. The issue we found yesterday was with the snow the night before, the field was a little harder.”

Hey Foxy, “it is what it is”. The former Panthers coach was infamous for that phrase and saying nothing, while talking.

It seems like the Broncos are trying to psych themselves out about the weather. They’re going overboard to convince THEMSELVES that by practicing outdoors, they’re getting acclimated to the temperature. (We’re Broncos and we’re MANLY MEN) Cols as hell, but manly.

The Seahawks are concerned with getting QUALITY practices and they know the game will be outside. Getting cold and having less productive practices makes no sense. It’s pretty revealing as to where the teams are mentally. LOB.
