Officials in New York and New Jersey are crossing their fingers that the weather holds for Sunday’s Super Bowl.

But some folks in Philadelphia are hoping it holds as well.

Eagles team president Don Smolenski said the Eagles are likely to place a bid to host a future Super Bowl if this one works.

If it goes well, that’s definitely a possibility,” Smolenski said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “We’re very proud of Lincoln Financial Field. We do think it’s a great facility, and we think over the years that’s been evident. It would be a sense of pride. Philadelphia is a world-class city with world-class facilities, and it’s a great sports town. It would be a chance to showcase Philadelphia on an international stage.”

The Eagles are also in the midst of upgrading Lincoln Financial Field, a $125 million renovation plan which includes upgrading video boards and other technological advances. When those plans were announced, owner Jeffrey Lurie hinted at the possibility of a bid.

“That wasn’t the intention, but certainly when I’m on the Super Bowl committee, when you’re bidding on a Super Bowl, the committee looks very closely at your stadium and your city and what you can host,” Lurie said in June. “Philadelphia would be a great place.”

Of course, all that hinges on things going smoothly this weekend, both for the game itself and the corporate sponsors who flock to the sit of the game annually.
