Sherman says flap with Revis was a “media fabrication”

Before the season, Tampa Bay’s Darrelle Revis and Seattle’s Richard Sherman seemed to have a beef: Sherman called himself the best cornerback in the game, and Revis said Sherman doesn’t show enough respect to older players. At least, that’s how it was portrayed publicly.

Privately, Sherman says he has talked to Revis about it, and the two have no problems with each other.

“I think one of those things, just like a lot of other things, is a lot of media fabrication more than anything,” Sherman said. “People make it more of a big deal than it really is. Guys have conversations off the field and are good friends. People would be surprised. They think they’re really mortal enemies, and it’s really not like that.”

Sherman said he’s friendly with Revis, and that they’re both just competitors who have confidence in themselves.

“We’ve had a few conversations,” Sherman said of Revis. “He’s a great guy and we squashed all the nonsense. As a corner, at the cornerback position, I think every one of them out there is going to say that they’re the best, and that’s the way you’ve got to play the position. I’m sure every corner out there that’s playing good football right now – Joe Haden, Patrick Peterson, Darrelle Revis, Aqib Talib, Alterraun Verner – feels like they’re the best corner in football. In order to play this game at the highest level, that’s how you’ve got to feel. That’s the confidence you feel. Now they may not go out and say it out loud and proclaim it like I do, but I’m 100 percent sure they feel that way. They play some great football and they deserve to feel that way as well. Like I said, I’m going to feel the way I am and they’re going to feel the way they are, and that’s just good corners playing football.”

Only one of those cornerbacks, however, can be the best. And right now, most people agree that it’s Sherman.

Busta Rhymes’ act is getting old – quickly.

  2. hawksfan4life1001 says: Jan 30, 2014 3:29 PM

He did what he needed to get his numbers recognized. That and the Brady thing was Richard paving the way for a huge contract.

Dude who are those guys? Phillip Adams and Taiwan Jones are the future stars of the position… Everyone knows it.

  4. vsantore says: Jan 30, 2014 3:31 PM

He knows he is no better than Revis; it is all an act.

  5. shaggytoodle says: Jan 30, 2014 3:31 PM

It’s always the media’s fault…they interviewed you after a game. Skip Bayless interview media’s fault.

Personal twitter account – Medias fault.

How about being accountable for your own actions.

You want all the attention when you make a play…but when your mouth keeps flapping…its someone elses fault?

““People make it more of a big deal than it really is. Guys have conversations off the field and are good friends. People would be surprised. They think they’re really mortal enemies, and it’s really not like that.”

That’s funny considering he based his entire justification for being a complete and total jerk on national TV on something that happened in a conversation with Crabtree at a charity event. You can’t spell hypocrite without a Sherman in it.

  7. iknowmorefootballthanyou says: Jan 30, 2014 3:33 PM

Not true. Most people do not agree. People who really watch football do not say that Sherman is the best.

It’s not even close if Revis is healthy he is far better than Sherman.

Sherman only plays one half of the field he does not track the other teams best corner like Revis. Sherman is not near as consistent as Revis as he has never put up the kind of stats that Revis put up in 2009. Check out the PFF corner stats. Sherman has never been close to a healthy Revis even though he is asked to do a lot less on the field.

This not to say Sherman is not good. he is very good. But Revis when healthy is the best to ever play the game.

  11. hawksfan4life1001 says: Jan 30, 2014 3:36 PM

Richard has the chance to prove he is the best by helping defeat the best QB ever.

  12. seatownballers says: Jan 30, 2014 3:37 PM

Enough about revis. Can we talk about the kaep vs Sherman feud instead? Much more relevant

  13. andrejohnsonforpresident says: Jan 30, 2014 3:37 PM

Revis, Sherman, Haden, Peterson, Talib, Verner

    just imo.

I’d move sherman ahead of revis if he didn’t play with Earl Thomas and Chance. I’ve seen revis do it on an island with no safety help. Sherman plays with imo the best safety in the game in Thomas.

I also think Haden is more like a 2B to sherman’s 2A. Haden is real good. I think Peterson could become the number 1 if he puts his time in and devotes himself to studying the game though. His speed and size is a great match.

The shehawks franchise is a joke.THE VI KINGS ARE WHERE ITS AT.the hawks will lose like usual!

  15. flaccodelic says: Jan 30, 2014 3:39 PM

    Loudest cornerback? Definitely.
    Best? Infinitely debatable.

  16. misterautomatic says: Jan 30, 2014 3:40 PM

Richard Sherman is the best… at mugging receivers and stealing their lunch money when the refs aren’t looking.

  17. doe22us says: Jan 30, 2014 3:40 PM

Never has the name Sherman, Sherman been said repeatedly since Nutty Professor. At this point in time i am done.

  18. purpleppleeaters says: Jan 30, 2014 3:42 PM

This guy has more problems with the media than just about anyone in the NFL. Why would that be? Poor guy. So misunderstood????

  19. seaeagle707 says: Jan 30, 2014 3:48 PM

Face it, pro football is an ego-centric sport. How could it not be, when players go out onto fields surrounded by 60-70,000 people, all watching them? If a player doesn’t believe in his own potential for greatness, he’ll be a flop and the fans will know it (and let him know). Is Sherm, the best CB? He thinks that he is and that’s all that should really count for him, and the Seahawks.

  20. nyninerfan says: Jan 30, 2014 3:48 PM

Well, as far as we know, none of the other best corners in the league needed a technicality to pass a drug test. Just saying.

  21. ctiggs says: Jan 30, 2014 3:49 PM

I thought my QB Kaepernick shut this guy up already, you are system player richard, niners were cheated out by Goodell. .. #goNiners #NOonehasitbetter……

  22. vsantore says: Jan 30, 2014 3:51 PM

I personally couldn’t agree more! Revis is a living legend.

  23. nyjsec314 says: Jan 30, 2014 3:52 PM

Sherman wasn’t even covering the best WR on the field – Anquan Boldin. How can he be the best Corner in the league?

  24. thevikesarebest says: Jan 30, 2014 3:52 PM

    The seachickens are laughable.

  25. adderal says: Jan 30, 2014 3:54 PM

He’s really done a 180 this week, as it effects me not at all I could care less if he is sincere or not. Im not sure who wins this game but you keep hearing about the hawks out at basketball games and enjoying this process. Not hearing anything about Denver out being seen. If Sea was facing any other afc team Id say there a lock to win. Manning coming back and putting up 600 points and capping it with a title is likely the narrative the powers that be want. A lot to overcome for the young team. Of course Ive been wrong about Seattle all year.

  26. billybone says: Jan 30, 2014 3:55 PM

Dude is a genius. He created the Richard Sherman brand within a year and is now the most talked about sports player. Regardless if you love him or hate him, you now know who he is and that’s what sponsors who pay big money want.

  27. oreo51 says: Jan 30, 2014 3:55 PM

Sherman is certainly the best corner playing this weekend and that is all that matters.

  28. keltictim says: Jan 30, 2014 3:57 PM

The funny thing about corners is their career trajectory. Revis was the best for maybe 2 seasons, it seems like after 2 quarterbacks either figure them out or they lose a step and quickly fall off.

  29. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Jan 30, 2014 4:04 PM

America is getting a full frontal of the Richard Sherman Ass-Kissing Experience. Sherman recognizes he can really set himself up huuuuge if he ingratiates himself to the American Public.

Amazingly (sarcasm cue), Sherman has REPEATEDLY insisted he doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks of him.

    What a crock.

Lots of people buyin’ it though.

  30. rg3andthensome says: Jan 30, 2014 4:13 PM

Does this guy ever shut up?

Does this guy ever take any responsibility?

Does this guy ever stop with his antics?

Does this guy really think he can beat the Broncos?

  31. myworldurjuslivinit says: Jan 30, 2014 4:19 PM

Could someone plzzzzzzzzzzz define ‘the best’…until then they all are the best; good grief.

  32. playedthegame32 says: Jan 30, 2014 4:26 PM

Let me help some of you that have never played the game at any level before. He was targeted less than ANY corner in the NFL this year (go to pro football focus) and STILL led the NFL in INTS for the 2nd year in a row. Statistics say no one has made more plays in the last 3 years at the cornerback position and no one has been more efficient.

Who’s the best corner may be a matter of personal opinion. Many of you cant separate the person from the player. However,if you’re being objective, theres not ONE person thats played better than him in the last 3 years. NOT ONE!!!!!

    -Former NFL Corner

  33. hanspard says: Jan 30, 2014 4:36 PM

Darrelle Revis is the best to ever play the game? Oh boy…. Kids these days. They think the whole world is only 10 years older than they are.

  34. baytownbombers says: Jan 30, 2014 4:55 PM

Not a cards fan but Patrick Patterson is better than both Revis and Sherman.

  35. unitasftw says: Jan 30, 2014 5:03 PM

    GOAT? Primetime

  38. steelersfanfromtheseventies says: Jan 30, 2014 5:16 PM

If the ref’s would have the nads enough to throw flags on this guy he would be flipping burgers somewhere.

  39. hyzers says: Jan 30, 2014 5:19 PM

That was awesome watching Titus Young carve Sherman up 2 years ago.

  40. summitmech says: Jan 30, 2014 5:19 PM

Well I think the most surprising result of all of this is how I, and I assume many others, have come to learn how articulate and apparently intelligent Sherman is. In that interview he seemed like a dumb meat-head jockey, but in his article and this interview, he doesn’t use slang, he pronounces his words, and he creates clear messages. So I’ll say that for him.

As for cornerbacks, I’m a Vikings fan, any one of the corners on that list I’d be happy to call the best if they would join our dire secondary.

  41. dodohead418 says: Jan 30, 2014 5:25 PM

Last time I checked Revis didn’t need safety help.

  42. chipbeastkelly says: Jan 30, 2014 5:32 PM

People saying Sherman is the best CB in the league is a media fabrication.

  43. 12thmangohawks says: Jan 30, 2014 5:46 PM

Anyone claiming Sherman ISNT the best is stretching numbers and disgustingly blind to the way he plays. Seahawk haters are pathetic.

  44. seatownballers says: Jan 30, 2014 5:46 PM

Peterson is a better kick returner.
    Revis was the best corner.
What matters is Sherman is the best playing Sunday.

  45. securb2013 says: Jan 30, 2014 5:58 PM

How does he mention Aqib Talib with that group of shutdown corners? Aqib Talib was taken out by a dwarf.

  46. theuglitruth says: Jan 30, 2014 6:10 PM

Patrick Peterson is not only a better corner…he’s a better human also!

  47. hawksforlife says: Jan 30, 2014 7:26 PM

All you hating on Sherman are mad he’s not on your team. Keep hating because we don’t care what you guys think. GO HAWKS!!!

The dude told 55 million people he is #1 so it must be true.

  50. dfco74 says: Jan 30, 2014 9:15 PM

I’ll take Revis he’s a better overall headache even if he didn’t go to Stanford.

  51. nyeagles10 says: Jan 30, 2014 9:33 PM

what a clown. whatever happen to the word professional ? now a days its all about talk. miss the old days when you played the game to make a STATEMENT. that’s why Dawkins is a future H.O.F

  52. kuranda84 says: Jan 30, 2014 10:19 PM

Well let’s just look at some cold hard facts for all you that believe Sherman is not the best. Since entering the league in 2011…

1st in INTs w/ 20 (Revis has 21 INTs in his TOTAL CAREER)

    1st in passes defensed – 61

1st in QB rating when targeted 39.4

Oh wait…let’s also mention that in 2013 he picked off 10% of passes targeted at his receiver

Piss and moan and hate all you want…he IS the best right and HAS BEEN the best for 2 years now. Please someone show me evidence to the contrary.

  54. frankyvito says: Jan 31, 2014 4:02 AM

You know what I told all my buddies after the 9er game? If Revis had made that play there’d be no LB there to make that pick. Cause he’d have no help in that situation. That’s what makes him tthe best IMO

  55. mrb1000 says: Jan 31, 2014 4:08 AM

America tell your boss you are not the best and see if you get a pay raise or get fired! Nobody wants seconds!

  56. alamba78 says: Jan 31, 2014 6:15 AM

This guy must be the best cuz he back peddles like nobody else! You wanna talk trash, then don’t sugar coat it when you get challenged, otherwise you risk looking like a fool.

Revis Island dawg!! Can’t wait to see him 100% next season. Just hope the defensive coaching staff isn’t a mismatch for him.
