Jaguars owner: We’re drafting a quarterback, if not two

khan_khanketterman-e1339872621392

Jaguars owner Shad Khan made clear what seemed apparent to anyone who’s been watching his team the last few seasons.

Khan confirmed to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union the team’s draft plans were obvious.

“Everybody knows we’re going to draft a quarterback — maybe two,” Khan said.

The Jaguars have made reassuring noises about bringing back veteran Chad Henne, who understands that he’d be competing with a rookie next year if he came back. If they draft two, that would leave little room for Blaine Gabbert, forcing them to admit the previous administrations horrible mistake.

The Jaguars have the third overall pick, but there’s a lot of competition for the top passers.

The Texans, picking first overall, obviously need one. The Rams, picking second, might not, but could auction the pick to the highest bidder. The Browns (fourth) and Raiders (fifth) could also use one, creating some drama as teams jockey for the guy they hope can lead their franchise.

Gus Bradley is a really good coach. Give him a couple seasons to add some talent through free agency and the draft…Jax will compete, I promise you.

    Gotta love that mustache.

As a Viking fan, I’m hoping we can find a solid prospect in the 2nd or 3rd round and just grab the best available talent in the first. I’m cringing a little bit thinking about it, but I’d rather see them sign a guy like Mark Sanchez as a safety net and try to develop a good prospect than to seriously over-reach on a first round selection and put it all on their shoulders.

That said, I’m sure my opinion on this will change 30-40 times prior to the draft.

His mustache amazes me… oh, and by the way, don’t spend all your picks on QBs, cause you need pretty much an entire team!

I’m not sold on this crop of quarterbacks coming out. I guess Manziel is the best of them, but the way he carries the ball when he runs isn’t going to fly in the NFL. In the pros, everyone is just as fast as you Johnny. I’d wait to take a qb until round 2.

    “Biff” Bortles. Book it.

Why not give Tebow a shot?

Vikigs are on line one. They’d like to trade their first overall pick.for Gabbert.

LOL. “Everyone knows we are going to draft a quarterback, maybe two…. Probably the quarterbacks you were going to draft Cleveland, Oakland, Minnesota, Buffalo… but it may not be too late… David Caldwell can be reached at 749-862-xxxx.”.

When did Tony Orlando change his name and move to Jacksonville?

  12. FinFan68 says: Jan 31, 2014 2:21 PM

Houston will take a qb. Rams won’t but would trade out. If a qb needy team jumps to #2 then the jags get the guy they want… Clowney.

the only way the glitter kitties will compete is if they move to LA, or possibly London.

they will never win in jacksonville. no way.

As a Titans fan, I pretty much hate everything about the Jaguars … everything except Jaxson de Ville and Khan. They are both, by far, the most comical there is in their respective positions.

I have said it before, I have no idea why teams don’t do that more often. Washington drafted 2, and put them in a great spot. Jax has nothing, and should go Bortles/Manzel 1st and swing around and grab Boyd at the top of the 2nd before the Raiders do. If you don’t have a top 15 QB, you can’t go anywhere in this league.

seatownballer should go away after next Sunday.

  22. thegreatgabbert says: Jan 31, 2014 4:09 PM

Jags have 10 picks in the draft and Gabbert is the only experienced QB on the roster signed for next season. Hardly a stunning revelation by Shad.

  23. neko02011980 says: Jan 31, 2014 4:12 PM

They will not be competitive in jaxville, not even if they draft 7 qbs

Good luck drafting an elite QB, Jags fans. And I genuinely mean that. I can’t help but root for downtrodden teams to catch fire for a while. Every fan deserves victory from time to time. Except Seahawks fans.

Should make for an interesting draft this year… I imagine the Rams front office are collectively rubbing their hands together in anticipation of the trade offers… the RG3 trade could work out spectacularly for them…

  27. docboss says: Jan 31, 2014 6:50 PM

If Cleveland really wants Manziel, they will probably need to send their top first round and second round picks, or more, to the Rams.

  28. fryeways says: Jan 31, 2014 10:26 PM

Gabbert has been a failure but few could argue he had a chance to develop. Even Brady and Brees had a couple years of meetings and tutoring under veterans before the heat was on them. Gabbert could have an Alex Smith career if he lands on his feet somewhere.

  29. bigbosscrispy says: Jan 31, 2014 10:53 PM

Whatever you do JAX, do not give Tebow a shot….

A blind man can see Gabbert is beyond really bad, no need to admit it.
