LeSean McCoy prefers Darrelle Revis to Richard Sherman

a6736c1982fcdc7ebdd602dc080219a9 AP

Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said this week that perceptions of a feud with Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis over which one was the best corner in football were fabricated by the media.

Those two might be getting along like peanut butter and jelly these days, but others are still batting around the question of which one is the best. During an appearance on SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio with Evan Cohen and Steve Phillips, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy said he liked Sherman but would prefer Revis on the Eagles.

“I would take Darrelle Revis, he’s better,” McCoy said. “If you watch Darrelle Revis’ tape, and you take Sherman, it’s not even close.”

McCoy explained that he thought Sherman would be “too much” in the locker room because he felt the Seahawks corner promoted himself a bit too much. It probably didn’t hurt that Revis shares an alma mater with McCoy either, although the fact that Eagles aren’t likely to be in position to acquire either player anytime soon makes it a fairly moot point.

That doesn’t mean we won’t be looking for someone to bring it up again next season when the Eagles host the Seahawks, though.

And we prefer marshawn lynch to leshon McKoy.

I have no dog in this fight. With that said, I’d also go with Revis. All the Seattle games I’ve watched I try to focus on Sherman and when i do I hardly ever see straight man to man. He lines up in the recievers face before the snap then right before they do, he backs off and goes into his ZONE. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a hell of a player but i think he’s a product of their system.

Yeah well we all know how valid McCoy’s opinion is. “Knowshon sucks”

  4. Patskrieg dot com says: Jan 31, 2014 10:21 AM

Yeah Revis has certainly never done any “promoting” of himself. He definitely didn’t do any Revis Island Foot Locker commercials or hold out on his contract or anything like that.

Choosing revis over sherman is like choosing one Kardashian over another.

    Hail to Pitt!

  7. fr0sted21 says: Jan 31, 2014 10:31 AM

It is true that Sherman plays a lot of zone, Seattle runs cover 3 a majority of the time. Still, Sherman does a great job within that defense.

  8. raiderlyfe510 says: Jan 31, 2014 10:35 AM

Anybody that knows football knows Revis is hundred times better than Sherman. If Frisco had a good offensive coordinator like Gruden Sherman would have gotten abused with slants, slant and go’s, crossing routes, and double moves. He doesn’t have good enough feet to cover a lot of routes. But he has good
Straight line speed size and technique. Revis is the whole entire
    Package.

  9. redandgoldhitman52 says: Jan 31, 2014 10:41 AM

    theres more cb’s i’d take before sherman…

    revis
    talib
    peterson

i’ll take those 3 any day before sherman.

  10. sandersmarcus10 says: Jan 31, 2014 10:46 AM

Why does this even matter? Revis isnt in the SB nor will he ever be, so if you help your team get to the SB and you say your the best who cares. Why is the hate so strong!

  11. mustbechris says: Jan 31, 2014 10:53 AM

Listen, I’m an Eagles fan, but he’s saying SHERMAN would be too much for the locker room? And Revis demanding a new contract every two years wouldn’t be too much for the locker room? Come on Shady

  12. tpa43 says: Jan 31, 2014 10:54 AM

Revis was a good player before his injury.

  13. dontouchmyjunk says: Jan 31, 2014 10:54 AM

Sherman benefits from having two of the best safeties in the game back there with him. Revis does it on his own. No contest.

A Pitt guy taking a Pitt guy! Is a win for Pitt fans

  15. mrtreyseven says: Jan 31, 2014 10:56 AM

Zone is still a Man concept especially for corners who plays cover 3. Your responsibility is deep 3rd as a corner so if u have a one on one match up any route over 7 yards you play it man until a. he leaves your zone or b. some one else shows. That play on Crabtree was a prime example Smith made the pick but Smith is a linebacker his responsibility in Cover 3 is curl to flat nobody showed in the flat he played underneath as Sherman locked on to crabtree bam boom the play happens and there u have the perfect example of cover 3

He at least got the last part right. Sherman is way better than Revis. I would prefer Revis, only as an opponent. I would want Shermn on my team. Maybe there is a reason Eagles have been non-factors in the NFL fo so long.

Every time someone runs by Revis, he pulls a hamstring.

  17. cunninghampeetemcnabbvick says: Jan 31, 2014 10:58 AM

Listen to Chip Kelly talk about what he wants in a corner and it’s clear he would prefer Sherman though. They’re both great corners, but Sherman is the perfect fit scheme wise for the Eagles. Not that any of it matters as neither will be an Eagle anytime soon.

  18. syrnyg says: Jan 31, 2014 11:02 AM

Revis= The only guy that can shut down Calvin Johnson 1 on 1.. Did it with the Jets, and was doing it in Tampa until he left the game with an injury… I will take Revis all day over Sherman, who is also a very good Cornerback..

  19. bolts0621 says: Jan 31, 2014 11:04 AM

If I were LeSean McCoy I would prefer the slower, light tackling, hobbled CB as well!!

  20. myeaglescantwin says: Jan 31, 2014 11:07 AM

there’s something to be said for size in this situation.

When was the last 6’3 CB??
QB’s think they see something, then forget that Sheman has a 12′ area that he can maintain.

when you have 5’11 CBs, it makes it much easier to thread passes , lead receivers or float the ball.. Sherman eliminates that.

Revis is the best overall CB in the game because of his experience and skillset,
Peterson is one of , if not, the most physically gifted CB’s in the game..
Sherman is a prototype that for 3 years has been top 3 CBs in the league.

you can’t say better best or any of that, cause schemes differ team to team..

    Revis only plays man.
Peterson is only ‘good’ at man.
Sherman is well rounded with each coverage option.

  21. folkcrusader says: Jan 31, 2014 11:17 AM

Revis was the best player in the NFL, before he was injured. He had a decent year but was nowhere close to what he was pre-injury. He could be back on top this coming season, only time will tell.

Sherman has put together two back to back awesome seasons. There is no doubt he was playing better than Revis in both those years – whatever the scheme.

Does that mean he was better than Revis when Revis was on top? I don’t think so, both players had pros and few cons but Revis was clearly more athletic. But Sherman has very special skills as well. If Sherman is redrafted today he goes top 10 in round one – easily. That’s a pretty good corner.

  22. ejm845 says: Jan 31, 2014 11:24 AM

Revis is to old with a gimpy knee

  23. bearshaterseverywhere says: Jan 31, 2014 11:33 AM

He’s right. Sherman’s mouth makes him get attention, just like ochocinco, both overrated and use their mouths to get in the spotlight…

  24. Mr. Wright 212 says: Jan 31, 2014 11:58 AM

    Pitt connection. Opinion invalid.

  25. joetoronto says: Jan 31, 2014 11:58 AM

Sherman is a good Zone CB, much like Asante Samuel minus the holding.

Revis was a good Man CB, but his best days are clearly behind him.

  26. macdaddyspeed says: Jan 31, 2014 12:12 PM

The argument matters not. Sherman is in the Super Bowl and Revis is not. Scoreboard.

  27. infectorman says: Jan 31, 2014 12:15 PM

This all must be pissing Ole Shermy boy off.

Haden, Talib, Peterson Revis: All better CB’s than Sherman

  28. russellwilsonismymvp says: Jan 31, 2014 12:18 PM

Revis is an excuse maker. As egotitstical as Sherman is, he tells it like it is…even when he f’s up. You have to respect that from a player. And Revis started that entire Twitter war. Sherman just isn’t going to back down…ever. I love that from a player.

  29. sf69ers says: Jan 31, 2014 12:40 PM

Revis and Sherman are two of the premier corners in the league at the moment, but Champ Bailey had a near decade run as a elite corner in the league. Just like Aeneas Williams first ballot hall of fame snub this year.

  30. iamedreed says: Jan 31, 2014 12:42 PM

am i the only one who thinks both of them get away with a ton of holding??

seriously go watch the roddy white vs sherman cut up and look how many times sherm is grabbing him 15-20 yards down the field

i always thought revis got away with alot too

they are both terrific corners tho

  31. qdog112 says: Jan 31, 2014 12:49 PM

That’s like asking, Flacco or Peyton. Which one is in NY and which one is at home on the couch eating the last crumbs from a Doritos bag?

  32. labucs says: Jan 31, 2014 2:25 PM

I would rather have Talib and a first round pick

  33. thefox61 says: Jan 31, 2014 2:35 PM

And we prefer playing in the Super Bowl over watching at a bar wit r posse. What a dweeb!

    Go Seahawks!

  34. mediasloppy says: Jan 31, 2014 2:44 PM

Does Sherman even line up with the best WR or does he just play the left side of the field. I always just see him lined up on the left side protecting a designated area.

As a Raven fan of the most penalized D this year you should be an expert on holding. The difference is both are so much better than any Raven and don’t get flagged as much.

  36. jolink653 says: Jan 31, 2014 3:12 PM

Great players don’t have to talk about how great they are, and Revis never says a word. Pretty clear if you watch them both play that Revis is way better than Sherman

  37. dukeearl says: Jan 31, 2014 3:14 PM

Regardless, Sherman leads in interceptions over the last two years with the least number of passes thrown his direction.

  38. eaglesnd18 says: Jan 31, 2014 3:41 PM

Both are self promoters. Need to be humble like patrick peterson. They are good corners but talk to much! I would take patrick peterson, brandon flowers, brent grimes, and talib over these fools.

  39. Mr. Wright 212 says: Jan 31, 2014 4:56 PM

You sackless girls talking about “great players don’t have to talk about how great they are” are pathetic excuses for men.

Bottom line, Sherman is the best.

  40. adderal says: Jan 31, 2014 5:15 PM

Id say Sherman is the top guy right now, Im curious to see what happens when he wants Revis money. Can you pay a db 16 mil and a franchise qb and still field a good team? Nothing to worry about this week but its coming.

Literally all these Seahawks fans are ignorant as can be first its lesean mccoy to that illiterate dumbass next i do think leseans opinion is valid every time knowshon moreno gets a carry he gets a 3 or 4 man rush he never faces a loaded box and he still cant put up good enough yardage he was also terrible last year so he has proven to be a victory of system not actual ability if lesean faced a 4 man rush he would be getting way more yardage. And finally revis has the intangibles over sherman its not all about interceptions a good player needs instict

  45. whinerssuck says: Feb 1, 2014 1:33 AM

First off Eagle fans thank Mccoy for now never even getting a chance for Sherman (And dont act like you dont care cause you’d take Sherman in a heart beat). 2nd of all to all those that think Peterson is better is a laughable joke…Peterson is a far superior athelete but not a better corner. If he was his stats would prove it, but they dont. Peterson gets owned and burned constantly by bigger, taller and stronger receivers and for that he will never be in Sherman’s league,,,why….cause sorry folks but he’s done growing. He’ll be faster but he’ll never be able to knock that game winning TD ball down like Mr. All Pro Richard Sherman. Nough said!
