Eddie Lacy wins offensive rookie of the year

AP

Packers running back Eddie Lacy is the Associated Press offensive rookie of the year.

Lacy, who had 284 carries for 1,178 yards this season, was given the award at the NFL Honors event in New York City on Saturday evening.

A second-round draft pick out of Alabama, Lacy had been widely expected to win the award, with Chargers receiver Keenan Allen generally considered Lacy’s closest competition.

Lacy is the first Packer since John Brockington in 1971 to be named offensive rookie of the year.

  1. Nice! It’s awesome to have a stud RB who is just starting his career, rather than wrapping up the tail end…

  2. Congrats . Wouldn’t trade Cordarrelle Patterson for him though even with a first round pick thrown in….

  3. When Aaron Rodgers was out, Lacy was about the only thing that kept the Packers in games. They’ll need him to stay healthy if they want to build a contender for next year.

  4. All you trolls can say what you want, no rookie had a bigger impact than Lacy did this year.

The NFC playoffs especially the division. would have been completely different if he wasn’t playing.

Congrats on a great rookie year.

Running backs a dime a dozen. Gerhart better than him. Last place no more…You scared of Norv and Zimmer…as you should be!

    ______

I really hope the Vikings “Who have the greatest RB to ever play the game”

    Wouldn’t trade for a RB.

  9. Congrats Lacy and nice job of using him properly GB, but I have a feeling this pudge is going to eat himself out of the league in about 2 seasons.

  10. As a Vikings fan, I completely agree with this. Lacy was so dominant this season with Rodgers out, he carried them to a good majority of there wins. I scared for next year whatever they have in store for our division.

  11. When Spieldope gave birth to his 3-13, and 5-10-1 last place teams, he pretty much sealed the fate of anyone he drafts. They are tainted with the rancid stench of losing.

  12. It’s about time an Alabama running back does something above average. Typically they stink.

Keenan Allen should have been the choice, but Lacey earned it as well.

pretty good grammar there yourself, chief.

  14. Lacy haters can suck it. #gopack. And I hope Lacy does put on more weight.z cause he’ll be our smash mouth and Starks/franklin will be fitness. In Ted we Trust

  15. Haha some people are mad in here! It’s so great. Steeler & Viking fans are so laughable haha! Ahhh thank you for laughs. Very much appreciated

  16. Can’t believe the steelers passed on this guy!! They will regret that for years to come.

  17. It’s to bad an OG can’t win it. Warford with the Lions didn’t give up a sack all year and never missed a snap. The guy was a 3rd round pick and played like an all pro. He is not a flash player so he gets screwed by Lacy and the running back position

  18. Seriously, there’s no debate. Keenan Allen had a pro bowl QB throwing to him with a top ten TE and a very good receiving RB distracting the secondary.

Lacy consistently faced 8-9 man fronts and was the focal point of the Packers offense for half the season and excelled.

No one can make an argument for Allen that logic can’t negate.

  19. Why do people come on here and trash someone just because they are a team you don’t support? All of you that trash him would not complain if he was on your team and carrying the ball for wins when your only quarterback is hurt. Give the kid a break or are all of you jealous because you sit on you couches and dream of your old high school days. Get over yourselves.

  20. Congrats to Eddie Lacy! Like the Packers or not, he did deserve this. However, with his running style I am willing to bet he just had the best season he will ever have in his career.

  21. Anyone trying to make predictions on lacy’s future are probably the same dandy’s who were sayin in august that he’s fat and out of shape and won’t amount to anything.

  22. LOL @ the GB rubes getting their undies in a bunch over some football fans having a reservation on this dudes longevity, it should be a true concern and only a rube would not see it, but typical of the GB rubes.

On another note to whoever posted it, Lacy DID NOT consistently face 8-9 men stacking the box.

What the hell games u watching?

  23. Patterson will be the player out of the 2013 draft that everyone will look back at as being the best offensive talent. Too bad the Vikings didn’t use him on offense until the second half of the season.

  24. Pretty sure Patterson will win it. I have been assured Lacy’s toes wont allow him to make it through pre-season…. Aslo, I heard the Packers will finish dead last and lose to the Super Bowl champs Vikings. PFTpoet told me this all.

  25. If both players stay healthy, and that’s a BIG if, then L. Bell will be the better back.

  26. Captain rube, when Rodgers was out all opposing defenses had to focus on was stopping lacy. They didn’t have to worry about Flynn throwin deep and that shows with how nelsons stats declined. So it prob wasn’t 8 or 9 man fronts but he still had it rough when all they were tryin to do was stop him.

  27. Eddie Lacy was 8th in yards and 3rd in TDs among all rushers.

Keenen Allen was 22nd in yards and part of a 7 way tie for 16th in TDs among all pass catchers.

Lacy’s receiving yards doubled up Allen’s return yards.

    Allen’s 2 fumbles doubled up Lacy’s 1 fumble.

This was not a close call.

  28. Offensive ROY who touches the ball was Lacy.

Best O rookie was, hands down, Warford. PFF gave him OROY and straight up ROY. He didn’t give up a sack the whole year. Only Loius Vasquez was a better RG. You can’t say theres only 1 RB better than Lacy in the NFL. Or is there only one WR better than Allen.

  29. Of course he would get it, hes a Packer. The Packers are the NFL’s most favored team. I thought Keenan Allen should have gotten it, but again hes not a Packer. I also think Lions RG Larry Warford should have gotten consideration. He was one of the best guards in the NFL this year…AS A ROOKIE. But of course a guard wont get it, let alone a Lions guard. Lacy was good though so thats no surprise. He was a lot better than i thought he would be,

  30. Absolutely stunned L. keuchly gets DPOY. here’s my list before this kid.

    1 Bowman
    2 Quinn
    3 Mathis
    4 E Thomas
    5 Sherman
    6 Keuchly (overrated)

Kennan Allen was the better rookie playing a much tougher position. Robbed
    —————————————————————
They both had great seasons, but seriously. Allen did have a revived Phillip Rivers and finally a balanced running game to help him.

Lacy had Rodgers only played parts of the year. When Rodgers was out Lacy had a huge workload with Matt Flynn as the quarterback…now I think 95% of us know (5% for trolls) that Flynn isn’t a starter.

Us Vikings fans know what he is capable of.

  32. bowman got jipped!!!!
just like his INT the nfc champ game vs Seattle. his fumble recovery against GB’s Kuhn in the wild card. or his fumble against Ahmed Bradshaw in the nfc chhampionship game.

  33. Eddie Lacy outgained and outscored every offensive rookie this season in only 14 games. Don’t let his 1 carry against Washington fool you, he missed 95% of that game or more after his concussion and then missed the Cincinatti game too. He was also slowed the last 4 or 5 games by a reoccurring ankle injury.

I won’t claim that Lacy is the best player of his rookie class but he was the most productive offensive guy and that’s why he deserves this honor.

Congrats to Warford, Allen, Patterson, Bell and Bernard but you all came up short, deal with it.

  34. It was a pretty amazing year for a lot of rookies..

Incredible how Lacy was carrying the Pack on his shoulders and sustained/thrived with the massive volume.

Couple of more games and maybe Bell would have made the conversation… he had a late start with injuries before making his impact but you saw how the air game blew up once he got ballin.

It’s easier said when a guy is getting consistently fed with the game plan focused on them…

No one had a bigger mid-season to end monster finish to the season (& playoffs!!) than Allen. Rookie WR’s are not supposed to be producing like that, no one since Boldin has. An River’s was throwing it around to everyone on the field…

Corderelle Patterson was an absolute joy to watch as he got unleashed towards the end of the season.. I think they had the same offensive coordinator who couldn’t figure for the life of him how to get Percy Harvin onto the playing field.. so it was too bad they waited that long.. but everything pointed to him being ready for bigger things..

  35. Serously?… this guy is identical to Onterio smith. A bit of a bruiser and a bit flashy but he’s gonna be out in a few years. He can’t take the beating.

  36. Here’s the best part, Lacy is only going to get better. Better at picking holes, better at waiting for a hole to open and better at making people miss.

He had the best stats but that doesn’t mean Bell can’t be a better back over the long run. Still, a deserving award.

  37. 50 voters. 35 votes for Lacy. These are people that observe and review and analyze pro football for a living. I’ll take their opinions over the predictability of the “usual suspects” Packer-haters.

  38. Cordarrelle Patterson is the only rookie, in NFL history, to score a touchdown 3 different ways. Lacy wasn’t even the leading rusher in the division.

I was watching a month+ of Flynn/Wallace/Tolzien playing QB for the Packers.

Two Noodle Arms and A Doofus Noob…

No Need to play Cover 2 …
Imagine Lacy’s stats when he has a full season with Rodgers in the line up.

Do you let a monster run against a 6-7 man front or do you leave Jordy/Cobb 1 on 1 against your DBs?

  40. For everyone saying Bell is better. When the Steelers played Green Bay this year Lacy averaged a whole yard more than him at 5.6 yards a carry and also had two touchdowns compared to Bell’s one. Not to mention Bell was playing against Green Bay’s pitiful, JV defense.
