Source: Teammates are covering for Suh

The battle lines have been drawn. On one side, former NFL player and current network analyst Heath Evans says teammates privately have complained that Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is uncontrollable. On the other, several teammates have gone on the record to say Suh isn’t a problem.

According to a league source, teammates are covering for Suh publicly because that’s what good teammates do.

While the source didn’t echo Evans’ claim that Suh is “uncontrollable,” there definitely is a sense that, under coach Jim Schwartz, Suh didn’t always follow the rules, specifically regarding punctuality.

If accurate, it’ll be interesting to see how new head coach Jim Caldwell deals with the situation. The second overall pick in the final year of the pre-wage scale rookie compensation system, Suh has always been untouchable, from a financial standpoint. If he gets a second contract this offseason, he could feel even more emboldened to do what he wants.
