Champ Bailey says he’s not done playing football

Cornerback Champ Bailey waited 15 years to get to a Super Bowl, but he’ll have to wait at least one more year to win one.

Bailey delivered a speech to his teammates before the game, telling them to “make the game bigger” than themselves but the Seahawks turned out to be too big for Denver to master in a 43-8 loss. Bailey had a hard time keeping up with Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin over the course of the proceedings and being a step slow was a reminder that Bailey is nearing the end of the line. He said after the game that he won’t reach it before next season, however.

“I’m not done playing football,” Bailey said, via the Denver Post. “So I feel like I’m going to give myself another shot next year.”

Bailey was asked during Super Bowl week if he would be willing to move to safety as many other aging cornerbacks have done over the years. Bailey rejected the idea, but was more accepting of it on Sunday night and called it something he’d look into. With a $10 million salary looming for next season, it may not be the only change Bailey has to contemplate.
