CFL linebacker Henoc Muamba, who reportedly has worked out for the Ravens and Patriots, has been released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to seek an NFL career, the club announced Wednesday.

The first pick in the 2011 CFL Draft, Muamba (6-0, 230) notched 106 tackles for Winnipeg this season. He will be 25 later this month.

Muamba recently had a workout with the Ravens, according to Howard Balzer of The Sports Exchange. Also, via NESN.com, Aaron Wilson of NationalFootballPost.com reported that Muamba worked out with New England in December.

According to the Winnipeg Sun, Blue Bombers G.M. Kyle Walters said he was under the impression “multiple” teams were interested in Muamba, according to the player’s agent.

Muamba’s special teams ability could be part of his appeal to clubs and may be his ticket onto a roster. He’s notched 53 coverage tackles in three CFL seasons.

The first pick in the 2011 CFL Draft, Muamba attended St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia.
