Crowd of 700,000 on hand for Seahawks victory parade

Super Bowl Seahawks Parade Football AP

The Seahawks couldn’t have done it without their 12, but they had way more than that to greet them Wednesday.

According to the Seattle Times, a crowd estimated at 700,000 has gathered to celebrate the Seahawks’ Super Bowl XLVIII win.

The parade just started moving around 3 p.m. ET, and isn’t expected to reach CenturyLink Field until around 6 p.m. ET.

It’s apparently quite the celebration, with running back Marshawn Lynch tossing Skittles into the crowd from the hood of the vehicle carrying the SeaGals cheerleaders.

It’s turned into a holiday of sorts, with more than 13,000 students absent from school today, of the 51,000 enrolled in the district.

Education is valuable, but for events like this, playing hooky might be the best call.

There are 700,000 people at the Seahawks parade. The entire population of Seattle is only 634,000. GO HAWKS

Lombardi Gras will never be topped.

This is awesome!!! Win or lose the Seahawks will have the best fans ever!!! Save the hate for next season, this has been along time coming for sooo many die hard fans that have endured the tough times

The population of Seattle, as of 2012, is 634,535.

Absolutely crazy! This city has waited so long to celebrate like this. Imagine if this was on a Friday. If 700,000 shows up Wednesday afternoon, we could easily crack a million on a party night.

  8. cball77 says: Feb 5, 2014 3:46 PM

Maybe worth noting it’s about 27 degrees outside in Seatown today

  9. nyninerfan says: Feb 5, 2014 3:47 PM

    700,000? That’s quite the bandwagon.

  10. imbetteratlifethanyou says: Feb 5, 2014 3:54 PM

For all you Viking fans – if you want to see an actual Lombardi trophy. You can live-stream the parade.

Note: You must be intelligent enough to figure out the internet.

Uh-oh, here comes the miserable haters.

  12. natelan69 says: Feb 5, 2014 3:56 PM

Too cool. Congrats, Seahawks and fans. Wish my Chargers could meet you on the mountain top soon.

San Francisco would have had 2 Million +.

Then you’d really see a city shut down. The baseball parade’s were INSANE. People were sitting on top of traffic light poles.

A Superbowl Parade in SF would be nuts.

How many were on hand at the Packers SB victory parade today?

  16. thevikesarebest says: Feb 5, 2014 4:03 PM

The most pathetic group ever.VIKINGS>SEADDERALL SHEHAWKS.

  17. palatypus says: Feb 5, 2014 4:04 PM

As someone who has delivered pizza in downtown Seattle, there are very few people who have quite my understanding of what a feat this is. New Orleans does parades when they find a neighbors lost puppy. Try doing it on a narrow island full of one way streets. SEATTLE DON’T DO PARADES !!!

  18. connertiland says: Feb 5, 2014 4:04 PM

Funny how many people can’t stand to see how well we support our hawks here. We’ve been crazy supportive since the days in the kingdome when elway whined about the crowd noise.

  19. nyninerfan says: Feb 5, 2014 4:06 PM

I bet they’re just cardboard cut outs of people like the fake crowd noise they pump into the stadium.

  20. somethingsmellsrotten says: Feb 5, 2014 4:13 PM

There are 50,000 people at Sports Authority Field in Denver…they’re just so high they don’t realize the Donkeys lost yet.

Seahawks Baby! Hoisting the trophy! I love it!

  23. mad55555 says: Feb 5, 2014 4:15 PM

The Philadelphia baseball team had 3 million at their parade in 2008. This is quite pathetic.

  24. connertiland says: Feb 5, 2014 4:17 PM

“I bet they’re just cardboard cut outs of people like the fake crowd noise they pump into the stadium.”
The nfl already looked into the “fake noise” complaint. Their search came up empty. It’s all natural baby.

  25. thegreatgabbert says: Feb 5, 2014 4:18 PM

But does that crowd count include the dog?

Things are quiet now, but wait until unruly participants start spilling out of the Starbucks.

  27. joe12hawks says: Feb 5, 2014 4:25 PM

Proof Seattle needs the Sonics back! Take notes NBA. Go Hawks!!

  28. mdd913 says: Feb 5, 2014 4:30 PM

Weak….the Saints’ victory parade drew 860,000 when the city’s population was only 347,000 and school attendance rate was 50 percent.

  29. alexb1234 says: Feb 5, 2014 4:33 PM

Just bc seattle has a population of 600,000 doesn’t mean that 700,000+ was not there as some of you have pointed out. People from out of town could travel for a parade and a die hard fan would. If the jets ever won a championship (i stress ever) I’d do whatever it took to get to the parade even if i moved out of new york when/if it happens.

  30. palatypus says: Feb 5, 2014 4:34 PM

What kind of diva talks trash about a parade, anyway? Is that you Joan Rivers?

  31. metalman5150 says: Feb 5, 2014 4:35 PM

I hate the Seahawks because of bias to west coast teams (there too hollywood drama for me).
BUT I would give anything to live in a weed – legal state. I hope every one of those 70k+ sparks up a doobie, in a collective plea for the rest of the states & the fed to do the same!
O wait – I forgot about prescription pills; they’re great, aren’t they?! Maybe a glass of alcohol to wash this one down. Hurray Thanks Big Pharma

  32. dervytimmons says: Feb 5, 2014 4:35 PM

I have three of the aforementioned Skittles in my pocket right now. Thanks Beast! What an awesome day for this city and Seahawks fans everywhere. I hope every fan of every NFL team gets a chance to experience this in their lifetime. Go Hawks!

  33. connertiland says: Feb 5, 2014 4:36 PM

“The Philadelphia baseball team had 3 million at their parade in 2008. This is quite pathetic.”
The phillies parade took place on a Friday bruh.
Seahawks parade started Wednesday morning! Most people are at work and school. Only the risky few had a chance to show.

  34. seahawksteven777 says: Feb 5, 2014 4:43 PM

There were a few 49er fans at the Victory Parade today. Rumor has it they attended because they wanted to see what winning a Super Bowl was like in the 21st century.

  35. j0esixpack says: Feb 5, 2014 4:46 PM

    Enjoy it Seattle.

That was some well played football.

Seattle fans will not miss an opportunity to come out and cheer for themselves.

  37. 23rdusernameused says: Feb 5, 2014 4:48 PM

    fair weather fans!

  38. mcgil38 says: Feb 5, 2014 4:50 PM

I literally just came from downtown Seattle… there’s absolutely no where near 700,000 people in attendance. All the spectators keep following the parade down the street so it looks like there’s a lot more people there then there really is. Typical Seattle BS to inflate the numbers to make themselves feel better about anything

  39. j0esixpack says: Feb 5, 2014 4:50 PM

So the NY Giants draw about a million fans out of a city of 8 million

Seattle draws 700,000 fans out of a city of 600,000

And people think that’s a weak response?

By comparison the Giants would have had to draw 9 million to be on par with Seattle

  40. pftisfulloftrolls says: Feb 5, 2014 4:52 PM

Hilarious that Viking fans are pretending to have a rivalry with the Seahawks and Packers. Last I checked they have a combined 5 Lombardis and they have none.
    5>0
    Seahawks and Packers>Pathetic Vikings.

  41. thetruth8888 says: Feb 5, 2014 4:54 PM

Terrible “Johnnie Come Lately” fanbase…only thing worse is their Pied Piper charlatan of a coach.

Congrats on your 1 title Seattle, now go away.

Gotta get to 3 or 4 before you are relevant.

  42. boisestatewhodat says: Feb 5, 2014 4:59 PM

That’s nothing compared to Lombardi Gras in New Orleans in 2010. We had well over 1M in a city much smaller than Seattle!

  43. indychiefsfan says: Feb 5, 2014 5:13 PM

congrats to a great team! enjoy the celebration.

  44. hillbillyjim says: Feb 5, 2014 5:34 PM

    Lombardi envy! Lol XLVIII champs!

  45. nirvana504 says: Feb 5, 2014 5:49 PM

Still nothing like New Orleans and Lombardi Gras. I’ve seen a lot of parades and events in Nola but that may never be topped.

  46. osiris33 says: Feb 5, 2014 7:39 PM

New crowd estimate is 1.2 million.

  47. 1historian says: Feb 6, 2014 7:57 AM

Seattle fans – It’s your day. Congratulations.

  48. holdmadik24 says: Feb 6, 2014 2:01 PM

The Seattle metropolitan area’s population is over 4,200,000. So yes, 700,000 is easy. there would have been a lot more had the planning not been so bad. Tons of people couldn’t even get on the trains and buses to get there and and they should have dismissed all students. It also should have been on a friday or saturday. I also heard reports that the total was 1 million people.
