John Elway on Knowshon Moreno return: We’ll see how things flesh out

The Broncos cleaned out their lockers on Tuesday and one member of the team hopes it wasn’t his last visit to the Broncos facility.

Running back Knowshon Moreno had his best NFL season in 2013, running for 1,038 yards and 10 touchdowns while also catching 60 passes from Peyton Manning, and he’d like to keep things just as they are in 2014.

“I’m a Bronco. We’ll see what happens in the offseason. Hopefully, I’m still here,” Moreno said, via NFL.com.

Moreno made $1.7 million last season and will likely look for a couple million more in salary as a free agent. That wouldn’t be out of line with his peers around the league, but it may be more than Denver is willing to pay to keep Moreno in their backfield.

Broncos executive V.P. of football operations John Elway said at Tuesday’s press conference that the team will wait to see how things “flesh out with Knowshon,” but stressed that it is a position where they have a lot of good competition with Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman and C.J. Anderson. Elway said the team has high expectations for Ball after drafting him in the second round and reading the tea leaves suggests he’ll get a chance to fulfill them next season.
