Kyle Arrington to have groin surgery

Patriots cornerback Kyle Arrington signed a contract extension with the Patriots last offseason, which is a much more enjoyable experience than the way he’s kicking off this offseason.

Multiple outlets are reporting via Arrington’s agents that Arrington will have groin surgery on Friday. Arrington was bothered by the partially torn groin for most of the season, although he was able to play in all 16 games. The injury did force him out for stretches of time during several of those games, however, and the Patriots secondary would be stretched even thinner as a result.

Arrington did his best work in the slot last season, but wound up playing outside as well as the Patriots dealt with injuries to Aqib Talib and Alfonzo Dennard during the season as well. He finished the regular season with 62 tackles, two sacks and an interception.

Arrington is expected to need six weeks to rehab from the injury, which would leave him ready to start offseason workouts with the team on April 21. While he’s likely to take it easy at moments this spring, there shouldn’t be any impact on his availability for training camp or the 2014 season.
