Former NFL player Hugh Douglas, who was involved in a pair of much-publicized incidents last summer, has agreed to plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge.

Douglas’s lawyer told the Associated Press that he expects Douglas to plead to breach of peace and avoid a jail sentence.

The case began when Douglas was accused of assaulting his girlfriend at a hotel in Hartford, Connecticut. Douglas was initially charged with felony assault and strangulation.

That incident took place shortly after Douglas lost his job at ESPN following a report that he threatened to beat up a co-worker.

A first-round draft pick of the Jets, Douglas was the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1995 and later was traded to Philadelphia and became a three-time Pro Bowler with the Eagles.
