Spygate videographer’s Super Bowl ring goes for nearly $16,000

A week after the Seahawks won the right to make a bunch of Super Bowl rings, more than a few past Super Bowl rings have been sold via auction.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the stripped-down Zirconia ring issued to Patriots Spygate videographer Matt Estrella went for $15,810.  Real rings brought in much more.

The Super Bowl XXXV ring issued to former Ravens linebacker Jamie Sharper went for $36,883.  Former Ravens running back Damien Berry’s Super Bowl XLVII ring went for $43,008.

Berry had denied putting the ring up for sale, until Goldin Auctions produced a sales agreement signed by Berry.  Which prompted Berry to abandon his position.

The rings were part of a winter auction that generated $2.3 million, including $162,267 for a 1955 Jackie Robinson bat.

He is more responsible for the Patriots’ Super Bowls than anyone. It is an injustice that he is the one who has to part from his ring.

…and if Johnny Sandlot, Earl, and their Clots didn’t choke against the Jets, purposely LOSE games to put them in position to draft a QB, who, they hope won’t gag on the big stage like his predecessor, cowardly sneak out of Baltimore a year after a college senior was smart enough to know that their entire organization was/is an embarrassment and decided he’d threaten to play baseball rather than become a Clot…

Can the Patriots-haters at least learn how to read their history?

Spygate was over a 2007 violation of a 2006 rule change. It shed light on the common and legal practice of stealing/filming signals in the NFL which continues today. The rule violation was on the placement of the cameras, which as of 2007 must be in the stands rather than on the sidelines.

Violating a 2006 rule in 2007 does not make 2001-2004 (or all other team’s championships) invalid. This is known as “logic.”

The allegation that came out on the eve of the 2007 season Super Bowl that the Patriots taped a Rams practice was completely FALSE and the Boston Herald reporter and editor behind it published a full retraction, detailing how they got the story wrong.

I think some Patriots haters (including some of the Rams “best” players) don’t know what the word “RETRACTION” means.

Ummm – the rule regarding the placement of cameras came out in 2006. That’s why MangIdiot called Belichick on it the first game of 2007.

Anything before then was completely legal.

In other words the Patriots were violating no rule regarding signal filming during the 2001-2004 Super Bowl years.

Aside from that MangIdiot had no way to know that Goodell would completely over-react to posture as though signal filming were new or in any way not legal (it’s legal – it continues today – that’s why coordinators cover their mouths while calling in plays)

What about this is so hard for you to understand?

I think the Rooneys should give Dr Rydze and Bill Leavy better rings than the Steelers players.

The AFC is like the D league of The NFL. I mean your best team got owned in the biggest game.

Seahawks almost got beat in at by Tampa in Seattle

Cards beat the Hawks at Seattle and gave them 3 INTS. Head start, LOL…

Pats have to play a weak schedule every year, 6 layup games against the bills , jets, and phins….. Not impressive.

When your teams are ready to play real football, Hawks, 49ers, Cards and Rams will gladly beat the tar out of you.

The tapes were destroyed to make sure that no more were out there and so they couldn’t be used again by Bill or anyone else. If another one showed up Bill would probably be suspended.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

Like I said before…. every cheater in sports has a whistleblower.

Jose Canseco was the whistleblower for MLB

Steve Courson was the whistleblower for the rampant and systemic cheating in the Steelers organization in the 70′s

That documentary guy exposing the Saints and Bountygate

    Porter Fischer

The US track coach on BALCO

    Lance Armstrong’s masseuse

    And many more.

And yet… it’s funny that nobody either currently or formerly involved in the Patriots organization has ever been willing to go on record saying that there is or was cheating in the Patriots organization. Not one person has ever said they either saw cheating, were asked to cheat, or even participated in cheating.

    Nope. Not one.

There’s so much money to be made and so much fame to be had if someone blows the whistle… and yet it hasn’t happened. Gee. I wonder why.

  43. forsbergler says: Feb 10, 2014 12:18 PM

Ya everyone except Eric Mangini, I guess he wasnt an employee right? It’s not like your OC Josh McDaniels didn’t get caught filming a 49ers team walk through in his 2nd year in Denver or anything. He was quoted in saying “It’s not like we were doing it like in NE, where it was taught, and practiced.” I guess he wasn’t an employee either right? You have no Idea what your even talking about. Why do you choose to ignor simple facts? THERE IS NOW WAY TO TWIST HISTORY TO YOUR LIKING. YOUR TEAM CHEATS, DEAL WITH IT! WE HAVE! Why do you use hash tags? this isn’t twitter, moron.

  44. forsbergler says: Feb 10, 2014 12:26 PM

If you were smart you would atleast try and go with the angle that EVEN THE SEAHAWKS DID IT IN THE SUPERBOWL! You might have some morons believe that. Real football fans would know their is nothing illigal about video taping signals from GAME film. What the Pats do is on a whole other level. Your teams entire play calling is based on knowing what the other team is going to do. There is a reason why you are a below .500 team away and batting 1000 at home. Since Mangini burnt you for having camera equipment at an AWAY games your road record is trash. 0-3 in Post season actually. It’s cheap as F*&% and your team will not get any respect as long as your systematic cheating continues.

  45. brazzz01 says: Feb 10, 2014 12:37 PM

Ya everyone except Eric Mangini, I guess he wasnt an employee right

    —-

Not once did Mangini go on record and say there was cheating in the Patriots organization and he was asked to cheat.

    Nor has anyone.

And despite the wishful thinking of the Patriots haters, McDaniels was describing how the Patriots and all other teams tape, it had nothing to do with illegally taping practices. I realize Patriot haters really enjoy believing fairy tales – perfectly understandable – but I prefer reality.

So..why have all cheaters in sports been outed by whistleblowers, as I said….and yet nobody is willing to go on record saying the Patriots cheated. Many have left the team on less than good terms. Many don’t like Belichick and would love nothing better than to bring him down. They would have everything to gain and nothing to lose from spilling the beans. So where is the tell all book or interview from a source in the know telling the world that yes the Patriots cheated and/or still do? Why hasn’t that happened?

    #iknowwhy

    PS-
And I will take your lack of appreciation for my hash-tagging as a cue to do it even more.
