This is the time of year teams fill in the fringes of their roster, with guys who have lingered on the fringes of the league.

The Colts have made such a move, signing journeyman safety David Sims.

The former undrafted free agent from Iowa State began his career with the Giants, and did time with the Browns and Buccaneers before joining the Eagles.

He played 15 games for the Eagles in 2012, but was cut last August.

His story is a good one, as he spent a year between high school and college working odd jobs, including on a garbage truck. So he’ll obviously appreciate the opportunity, and should help lift the level of competition in practices.
