The Packers have waived reserve guard/center Greg Van Roten, the NFL disclosed in its daily transactions on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Van Roten appeared in three regular-season games on special teams for Green Bay this season. He spent most of the 2013 campaign on injured reserve with a foot injury. In 2012, he played in seven regular-season and two postseason games for the Packers as a reserve.

Van Roten (6-3, 303) signed with Green Bay in July 2012. He played collegiately at Pennsylvania.

    I don’t understand this move.

He was easily the most talented offensive lineman on this roster.

But even then, Hellen Keller would probably be the most talented lineman on this depleted roster too.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him in the Vikes camp. I’m not sure Sullivan is the answer and the more competition the better.

He couldn’t have been much of an impact player? I don’t recall ever hearing anyone mention his name? The entire line could be waived without much loss.

Weren’t they looking at him as a possible “center of the future?”

Falls from grace can be fast in the NFL.

    This is obviously injury related.

A lesser team will give him a chance if he passes the physical.

Ted figures he can sign 3-4 UDFA with Rotten’s salary gone since first round picks have busted since 2010….
