Report: Jay Z, Roc Nation to advise Ndamukong Suh

The Lions and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh are expected to talk about a contract extension this offseason and it looks like Jay Z may have a seat at the table.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the rapper and his fledgling Roc Nation agency are expected to have “some kind of connection” to Suh, who parted ways with agents Eugene Parker and Roosevelt Barnes in January. It’s not clear if they would be negotiating Suh’s contracts, as they do for Jets quarterback Geno Smith, or if they’ll be handling the marketing side of things, as they do for CAA client Victor Cruz.

Suh has a salary of $12.55 million for 2014 and is set to count $22.4 million against the cap, making an extension would be the likeliest path to getting that cap number down to a more reasonable figure. With a voidable final year on the contract in 2015 and such a big number sitting in the way of other moves, Suh has a pretty good hand to play in negotiations.

We’ll find out in the coming weeks and months how he plays that hand and how Jay Z and company are planning to help him play it.

Ford now has 99 problems and Jay-z’s one?

Such a great position for Suh to be in, he’s under no pressure to do a deal and the Lions badly need to do a deal to free up that cap room since no other players offer much space potential. Those other players also only offer up that space if we part with them.

If Suh wants any talent in that backfield, he’ll get a deal done.

Ha! Dumb and dumber sitting down to negotiate a new deal. The Lions should have their way with these two yahoos.

The more I know about players – the less I like about football.

I’m still trying to figure out how “Jay-Z” is negotiating contracts for football players.

Fledgling? You have to start somewhere and he continues to sign decent name athletes…Why all the hate???? JayZ isnt getting arrested every week for stupid stuff…The guy is a business man with goals and aspirations and people here think thats a problem??? Its total hate! Total and I will stop there…. And JayZ wont be at the table his young up and coming sports agent will be…Again, she has to start somewhere….. Hmmmmm maybe the other agents are threatnended by what he can do and spew negativity to hate on em…But the smart athletes see straight through that…..Keep hatin on him..Its motivating him to keep climbing an chasing the business…..

    I told you.
Best part about suh, is he’s predictable

No NFL owner should deal with any player who retains Jay Z/Roc Nation as his agent. Period.

Z & Suh. Sounds like a traveling circus.

  18. thelionsrgreat says: Feb 11, 2014 3:06 PM

Apparently suh don’t learn from his past mistakes. He just made another huge one with this decision. What do you have to do to get through to some people? Sign with a proven firm who is out for your best interest, not promoting their own greed. I really hope he gets burned in this deal somehow. Dumb!!!!

    Move over RomOwens.

There is a new super couple in in football. They go by SuhZ.

Wow….think #90 was headache before? I can’t even imagine what type of trouble the hip-hop mentality mixed with his already unpredictable antics will produce!

  21. phillycannon says: Feb 11, 2014 5:20 PM

none of you can give a good reason on why Suh shouldnt sign with Roc Nation!! All of your opinions are based on culture and music.

All agents are greedy….but as soon as Jay Z is in the news, Suh is now stupid.

i bet most of you can’t name 5 agents without using google. Ill give you 2 agents(the most greedy of them all) and you can come up with 3…..Drew Rosenhaus andd Scott Boras.

    Your turn?
