Vikings sign linebacker Simoni Lawrence

CFL Grey Cup AP

A University of Minnesota product will get a chance to compete for a roster spot with the state’s NFL club.

The Vikings announced the signing of linebacker Simoni Lawrence on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Lawrence played for the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2013, notching 52 tackles and intercepting three passes.

Lawrence (6-1, 228) has had NFL stints with the Buccaneers, Bears, Eagles and Rams. He originally signed with St. Louis in 2010 after two seasons with the Golden Gophers (2008-2009).

Lawrence’s most recent NFL stint came with Tampa Bay in 2011. The Buccaneers waived him in the final round of cuts to 53 players. He played with the UFL’s Las Vegas Locomotives in 2011 and the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos in 2012. Lawrence was traded to Hamilton in 2013.

The Minnesota Vikings dynasty is coming.

Whether you deny it or not, we will be completely unstoppable next year.

No other team has a talented as roster as us at every single position.

We are the best for a reason.

Every single franchise tries to emulate ours, but fails.

19-0 here we come, haters will deny it, but it’s our calling.

    Can’t say I remember him.

At that size perhaps they think he can be a safety. Too small for a 4-3 linebacker.

I’m going out on a limb here but I bet the Vikings did their due diligence on this LB to make sure he has a clean record; no DWI’s or beating his girlfriend so as to distinguish Simoni Lawrence from the rest of his defensive teammates.

As to the critical question as to whether he can play LB in the NFL, Tampa Bay has already weighed in out that by cutting him so this is an unusual signing for the Vikings, they usually only sign ex Packers who are cut.

Yes, we do have the best team. We just give free wins to our opponents? Lmao maybe we’ll get 3rd in the division this season.

    Violets are blue,
    Roses are red.
    By game ten,
    Vikes’ chances are dead.

The kid must be special. Played 2 years of college ball so he’ll fit right in to that level of play with the Vikings. How did MN ever notice him if he never played for GB?

Easily the most talented player on this horrible defense.

Come to green bay, we play clown music at our practices!

  16. shaggytoodle says: Feb 11, 2014 4:59 PM

Come to Green Bay, we have a winning record over the past 5 years and a Super Bowl victory.

The only team in the NFC North that can say that.

So he missed the university of Minn so much he decided to play for them again.

  18. coachkilla6 says: Feb 11, 2014 5:30 PM

GB might play clown music but it’s because of the level of competition they face in the NFCN. I hear MN plays funeral marches at their practices.

Good addition, any defensive player the Vikings bring in could be solid under Zimmer, he has a way if turning players into more than what most expected. Probably will be a solid special teams player.

Zimmer will turn him into a beast.

@whatjusthappened: lame. You can, and have, done much better than that.

@tokyo: Okay, we get it, you enjoy being a troll. But can you please come with something worth reading?

@coachkilla: First one was bad, second one was pretty good.

So, I missed the reason for the clown music. Does anyone know what prompted that? I can only assume it has something to do with McCarthy’s physical appearance…… Although it may be in reference to the fact that clowns are still doing the same old bits and they just aren’t as funny anymore. Maybe the management in Green Bay reads PFT and was trying to send a message to their “fans”…..

I’m a Vikings fan but 19-0? Really? Some of the people on here are idiots. Vikings won’t win the division this year. We are at least a year out from that. Any if you that think we are goin to the superbowl this year should probably stop watching the sport cuz you obviously don’t understand it anyways lol
