Rams officially name Gregg Williams defensive coordinator

It didn’t take long for word of Gregg Williams’ return to St. Louis to surface after the team fired defensive coordinator Tim Walton, but it took a bit more time for the team to make an official confirmation of the hire.

That came on Wednesday. Williams was set to be the team’s defensive coordinator in 2012, but his suspension as part of the penalties handed down for the Saints’ bounty program forced the Rams to move in a different direction. Williams spent last season working with the Titans defense and has now been reunited with his former Titans boss Jeff Fisher in St. Louis.

“As I’ve stated before, I believe Gregg is an outstanding football coach and is capable of taking our defense to the next level,” Fisher said in a statement from the team.

The Rams got strong seasons from defensive ends Robert Quinn and Chris Long on their way to 53 total sacks last season and finished ninth in the league against the run. Opposing offenses found big gains when they had time to throw the ball, however, and that will likely be one of the first areas Williams is charged with improving.

The next level being incentive based pay? lmao

He should have been named Head Coach of the Washington Redskins

Rams will win the divison this year.

The Seahawks are a fluke and the 49ers aren’t going far with Kaepernick.

The cardinals have Carson Palmer as their QB so don’t expect them to win more than 8 games.

not exactly going out on a limb here but my guess is the rams will give gregg the top flight safety at least one cb and 1 olb in the draft all inside the top 3 rounds!!

Note to Rams players: Bring plenty of cash…

    Let the “incentive pay” began.

It took a while but Fisher is getting the coordinator he wanted all along. They just had to let Williams play out Goodell’s punishment like everyone else had to.

Gregg Williams had a bounty on Marshawn Lynch in the 2010 playoffs. #BeastQuake

Much like spygate, I don’t think bounties were just a Greg Williams staple. I love his style of game calling (so long as the bounties are gone) and we need a physical style to even come close to SEA and/or SF. Hopefully a team like CLE or MIN will want to trade up to #2 to grab their QB.

Great move. This defense is going to be dominant.

    Rams fined already.

    Happy for Gregg W!
In a not-so-distant past, Gregg Williams helped put a smile on my face, when my team’s struggles appeared to be a crappy offense, Gregg and our Defense routinely made me proud.
    RIP STaylor #21!
    Congrats GWilliams!
Jeff Fisher, you sly dog, you. Don’t get too greedy with that #2 pick in this year’s draft.

Williams is well known for calling tons of blitzes which would suit the team just fine. If the Rams can draft a good OLB and shore up the secondary I think they have a chance to rival the Seahawks as the best defensive team IMO.

More importantly, who is his facial hair coordinator?

no bounty program in St Louis this year. we are having a fan lottery each week. the winner gets to pick the opposing player to be hurt

If the Rams hit on this draft, they’re going to be hard to beat. You guys got Ft. Knox for RGMe…aren’t you glad you avoided that prima donna and got paid in the process? The question is though: Do you take a QB in rnd one? I’m not sold on Bradford.

The Greg Williams “Just For Men” look is the only good thing to come out of Bountygate.

I’m glad the Rams’ players can make extra money with the new Bounty system.
