Report: Brandon Weeden wants out of Cleveland

Since quarterback Brandon Weeden was drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft by the Browns, the team has had three head coaches, three offensive coordinators and three general managers.

Weeden would like to make it four in each column, but not by waiting a year to see if the Browns decide to shake up their entire organization again in 2015. Mike Silver of NFL Network reports that Weeden would like to be wearing a different uniform next season.

“Given the turmoil with the coaching staff and lack of support from the most recent front office, he’s looking a fresh start, a clean slate, a place where he can show he has the talent to be a productive player in this league,” Silver said.

You can certainly argue that all the upheaval over the last two years has negatively impacted Weeden’s entry into the NFL, but he hasn’t done that much to help himself either. He’s struggled across the board in his 20 starts for the Browns and hasn’t given many signs that a change of scenery is standing between him and a long-term starting job in the NFL.

That won’t make it easy for the Browns to get anything in return for Weeden, assuming, of course, they want to get rid of him. That may be a fair assumption, but any movement may wait until they’ve solidified the position over the course of the offseason.

This guys been one of the worst QBs in the league. I can’t imagine anyone being excited for this. Oh and he’s 31 .

  7. aallgod says: Feb 12, 2014 8:04 AM

No problem… I don’t wanna watch Bee-Wee football again this year anyway.

  8. savocabol1 says: Feb 12, 2014 8:07 AM

This is hilarious. Nothing but an attempt to save face for Weeden. He is out on day 1 of cuts, no matter the cap hit. He was a bust/reach from the start.

  9. deadfall247 says: Feb 12, 2014 8:09 AM

Ok, no problems here. Agree to void the rest of your contract and consider it done. I’ll even hold the door for you so you don’t get hit on your way out. Talk about the perfect win win situation. First Banner and Lombardi, now Weedon… just don’t wake me up. I want to dream this little dream.

  10. nflofficeadmin says: Feb 12, 2014 8:10 AM

Go to KC and Andy Reid will flip him like a busted house.

  11. cowpiesnotcowboys says: Feb 12, 2014 8:12 AM

Good luck finding another team willing to pay him his first round rookie contract dollars to be their backup QB. He’s got no trade value. They need to keep him or cut him.

  12. kerrchris65 says: Feb 12, 2014 8:13 AM

You couldn’t tell how bad Weeden actually was, until a 3rd stringer came in and lit it up. And then came his flip interception to seal defeat against the Lions. The only result that was acceptable following that play was a punch in the face from Chud, but Chud failed. Weeden, we won’t miss you.

  13. whoisedgy says: Feb 12, 2014 8:15 AM

We Browns fan want Weeden gone, too. If he hadn’t sucked so badly, maybe those coaches would still be around. I realize the front office was a mess, but the players have to play. Weeden didn’t.

  14. ctiggs says: Feb 12, 2014 8:15 AM

lol Where you going to go Brandon? and to do what?

Be careful what you wish for my friends.

Brandon the rest of the Human Race knows something you don’t; If not for the browns, you are not a cinch to start in Canada.

A lovely country , but cold.

Got a feeling this blog wont go well for Weeden or the Browns

  19. erikinhell says: Feb 12, 2014 8:27 AM

I’m good with this. The Browns drafted another career backup in Weeden. As of this time, I’m not even sure he can be a backup in this league.

  20. qdog112 says: Feb 12, 2014 8:28 AM

I’m sure somebody would gladly sneak a free bus ticket into his locker.

He’s right, he needs to get outta town. He’ll make a decent backup somewhere.

  21. midtec2005 says: Feb 12, 2014 8:28 AM

Brandon Weeden wants out? I’m sure the feeling is mutual.

    Cleveland wants him out

  28. thestrategyexpert says: Feb 12, 2014 8:42 AM

Great, Stafford for Weeden and how many picks do we get? And can we find a 3rd team to take Weeden cause he’s not that exciting of an option either.

  29. ytownie says: Feb 12, 2014 8:42 AM

He will kick around the league from team to team just like Brady Quinn. BUST!!

  30. crippled4life says: Feb 12, 2014 8:43 AM

I’m sure Cleveland wants you out too.

  31. minibull says: Feb 12, 2014 8:47 AM

Here’s what they should do – trade him to Miami for Jonathan Martin. This gives both players a second chance, but more than likely both would be cut at the beginning of next season.

  32. jmblosser82 says: Feb 12, 2014 8:48 AM

Everyone wants out if Cleveland, joke of a sports town.

Never should’ve drafted this chump in the first place.

  36. jeremycrowhurst says: Feb 12, 2014 8:54 AM

The only other uniform he’ll be able to wear is one where he gets to ask, “Do you want fries with that?”

  39. bodybysnake says: Feb 12, 2014 9:04 AM

He, like everyone else on the planet knows he is going to be cut…. So he tries to save face by asking for a trade…. That is almost as pathetic as his play on the field.

  40. schleusryn says: Feb 12, 2014 9:05 AM

No time to grow when you’re drafted at such a late age…

  41. gocleve99 says: Feb 12, 2014 9:05 AM

As bad as the front office has been, they are not the ones who have consistently overthrown wide open receivers, stared down first choices, and made bone-head underhanded throws that could never have been completed. Believe me, Brandon… Browns fans want you out of Cleveland as badly as you want out of Cleveland. Don’t let the door hit you.

  42. schleusryn says: Feb 12, 2014 9:06 AM

No time to grow when you’re in your late 20s.

  44. steelerfanjo says: Feb 12, 2014 9:21 AM

Another dumb Browns draft pick. Does anyone watch college football in the NFL?

  45. thebirdsareback says: Feb 12, 2014 9:21 AM

You know your team is bad, when your starting back-up third string qb wants out, and knows that his life will improve dramatically from it. Cleveland is currently researching the best candidate for their back-up qb position, and word is they intend on having the very best back-up in the draft. And they will get this back-up in the FIRST ROUND. Now I am an eternal optimist, so i say, Cleveland isnt the worst at everything. They actually are the BEST EVER at drafting back-up third string qb’s. I mean if you’re going to be good at something, do it consistently. I dont know what the fuss is all about! they nail it everytime!

  46. mrlaloosh says: Feb 12, 2014 9:28 AM

Everybody in Cleveland want out of Cleveland. Take your lack of talents elsewhere. Go to the animal shelter and take some abandoned dogs and cats with you. There deserve better than Cleveland.
Given the chance, Cleveland would be a ghost town.
But hey, they have the Rock and Roll HOF!

  47. fordmandalay says: Feb 12, 2014 9:31 AM

    Who doesn’t?

  48. jmrosati61 says: Feb 12, 2014 9:39 AM

    The Drive.
    The fumble.
Prediction: in 2017, Brandon Weeden, starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, will be intercepted (pick-6) by Mingo on a short flip pass to put the Browns in the BIG GAME. Thank you Brandon!

  49. kosarkid says: Feb 12, 2014 9:40 AM

Hey Colts, sorry we screwed you with the T-Rich trade… but we got an outstanding QB that wants out. We’ll trade you straight up for Luck. Trent played better with Weeden so that way your trade won’t look so bad.

  50. dcapettini says: Feb 12, 2014 9:43 AM

It is extremely difficult to find a franchise QB.Baltimore and the Jets struggled with problem for years. Look at Arizona, Jacksonville and Miami. It is easy to blame the QB in this league since the rules and officiating has made the position so vital. To compound the difficulties, even getting a very high draft position is far from a sure thing. I wouldn’t want to make the decision in Texas right now. There are no sure things in getting a topflight QB.

Perhaps Cleveland should look to its AFC North rivals for direction. Develop a great defense and you can make do with a journeyman QB, like Andy Dalton. Cleveland already has a first rate defense. They should make it great so that they can give a conservative offense the ball more often and winning will come.

  51. tformation says: Feb 12, 2014 10:19 AM

Weeden was a reach as a first round pick. The expectations on him for being a starter are too much.

Maybe he can turn himself into a solid backup somewhere for a couple years. Maybe. Be interesting to see if he played better behind a different Offensive line in a different uniform.

  52. randy2054 says: Feb 12, 2014 10:41 AM

Unload him to a club like Dallas for say a cup of coffee and Oreo cookie, and sign Vince young as his replacement because Vince young to this day is a far more talented quarterback than Weeden ever was and chalk it up to another baseball to football experiment gone bad does anybody here remember Drew Henson?

  53. jroerigjeromechristopher says: Feb 12, 2014 10:47 AM

Good luck Mr. Weeden. You were given plenty of opportunities, in Cleveland, and the bottom line is you didn’t get the job done. It should now be clear that people not getting the job done is no longer acceptable, in Cleveland.

  54. mshawn75 says: Feb 12, 2014 11:08 AM

A different uniform? Burger King or McDonalds sounds about right.

  55. chris3141084 says: Feb 12, 2014 1:01 PM

Shoooot! The Browns want him out if Cleveland.

  56. mrfrostyj says: Feb 12, 2014 1:12 PM

Weeden is a great QB to use as a starter if you’re a coach looking for a new team the following year.

Look what he’s done for Pat Shurmur and Rob Chudzinski’s careers.

  57. bobzilla1001 says: Feb 12, 2014 1:20 PM

    Bring back Butch Davis!!!

  58. seaeagle707 says: Feb 12, 2014 4:31 PM

With his impeccable record of winning seasons and deep playoff runs, just where does Weeden, expect to go? Maybe to the myopic eyes of Jerry Jones, but there just can’t be a GM or HC, in the NFL that would even want to talk contract with Brandon. He can’t possibly believe that he could sell anyone on the idea that his record is due to the team around him.

    Can he?

  59. rolli1967 says: Feb 14, 2014 6:33 PM

He will become another journeyman QB along the lines of Charlie Frye, Brady Quinn, and DA. Weeden’s a decent guy, but NOT what the Browns need in order for the Browns to become winners. Wish him the best wherever he goes.
