Reports: Michael Lombardi to join Patriots front office

It took Michael Lombardi five years to get another job with an NFL team after being let go by the Oakland Raiders following the 2007 season.

The wait apparently won’t be nearly as lengthy this time around.

According to multiple reports, Lombardi is going to join the front office of the New England Patriots after being fired as General Manager of the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday. Chris Fedor of the 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland first reported that the two sides were nearing an agreement.

Lombardi will be reuniting with Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick. The two worked together with the Browns during Belichick’s first head coaching opportunity in Cleveland from 1991-1995. Lombardi’s role with the Patriots is unclear.

Lombardi spent five years working in the media after being fired by Oakland before being hired to run the Browns prior to last season.
