Darren Sharper charged with drugging, raping two women

Former NFL safety and NFL Network analyst Darren Sharper was charged with two counts of rape by use of drugs in Los Angeles County on Friday, the county district attorney’s office announced.

According to the district attorney’s office, the 38-year-old Sharper is alleged to have drugged a pair of women in October and another two women in January. In both cases, Sharper is alleged to have given the women a shot after inviting them to his hotel room, the district attorney’s office said.

Sharper also faces four charges of furnishing a controlled substance and one count of a possession of a controlled substance, according to the district attorney’s office. According to the district attorney’s office, which cited the complaint, the controlled substances alleged to have been given were morphine and zolpidem.

Deputy district attorney Stacy Okun-Wiese will seek a $10 million bail for Sharper, whom the district attorney’s office says faces rape allegations in Arizona, Louisiana and Nevada. Sharper is to be arraigned on the charges on Friday morning.

Sharper was arrested by Los Angeles detectives on January 17. The NFL Network suspended him without pay the next day.

Morphine?!?! That’s some pretty sinister crap. If proven to be true, he is an ultimate lowlife p.o.s. 10 million bail eh..Umm ya, he will be in prison for the rest of his life if convicted

  10. icanspeel says: Feb 14, 2014 1:00 PM

Weird he would need to drug them after they go back to the hotel.. generally if you get a woman to go back to your hotel odds are they aren’t coming just to chat.

  11. davikes says: Feb 14, 2014 1:01 PM

Sharper had a HOF career, and the HOF is supposed to ignore off-field issues. But how do they ignore this? (If it’s true, but it doesn’t look good.)

  12. donniev77 says: Feb 14, 2014 1:03 PM

Scary thing is, these arrests are the times he’s been caught or reported by the victims. I would venture to guess there will be more woman coming forward who also woke up naked and wondered what the heck happened after a night with Sharper

  13. bosfaninva says: Feb 14, 2014 1:05 PM

What a piece of garbage. And yet, someone people would prefer him as a teammate to Michael Sam.

Looks like the Pick Magnet is just a Sick Maggot.

Bang up job NFL Network on your pre-hiring background checks. Dude is only wanted for rape in almost 10% of the US!

  16. wishingtonredslur says: Feb 14, 2014 1:07 PM

Who would let a football player give them a shot in a hotel room?

Dude’s a predator. I think we can now call him Former NFL Network Administrator.

If this is true he is the biggest moron in the long sad list of stupid jock morons.

    Concussions made him do it.

  22. ttommytom says: Feb 14, 2014 1:13 PM

I always thought there was something creepy about this guy.

For all you “he didn’t need the drug to get a girl etc” : It’s not about what we call sex. It’s about power, control and some other stuff most of us can’t comprehend.

  23. grantsbuds says: Feb 14, 2014 1:14 PM

    Cowardly indeed.

  24. raiderufan says: Feb 14, 2014 1:14 PM

I was wondering why the drugs would be needed AFTER getting them to the hotel as well….very odd.

And to the point of how does the HOF deal with this…I give you Lawrence Taylor.

  25. patsfan1820 says: Feb 14, 2014 1:17 PM

What the hell? Damn this guy is sick if this is proven to be true.

  26. dohpey28 says: Feb 14, 2014 1:17 PM

How long before the defense says concussions made him do it?

  27. bucrightoff says: Feb 14, 2014 1:18 PM

These guys can get women pretty easily, what with them having the trait women are most attracted to (money). That they ever have to resort to this type of thing speaks to extreme stupidity.

  28. fdugrad says: Feb 14, 2014 1:27 PM

Holy Moses…Those are some extremely powerful drugs, ESPECIALLY if they were, in addition, given in conjunction with the ingestion of alcohol! We are fortunate to not be talking about two homicides! If these allegations are proven in a court of law, in addition to rape, I wonder if attempted murder will be into the mix as well? If true, this is absolutely despicable behavior by ANY definition, and should be punished to the fullest extent. How does ANY human arrive at a time in life when he/she is devoid of the slightest amount of empathy for others?

  29. heisthejuan says: Feb 14, 2014 1:32 PM

  32. channer81 says: Feb 14, 2014 1:52 PM

Funny that this guy played with Eugene Robinson. To think, he had it made and blew it in such horrible fashion.

  33. olskool711 says: Feb 14, 2014 1:56 PM

The NFL Network’s response to this is that the Cleveland Browns are dysfunctional becuase they fired people who actually needed to be let go.

  34. cursedvikings1998 says: Feb 14, 2014 1:59 PM

As a longtime fan of Darren, this is heartbreaking. He’s one of the last people I would have suspected of doing stuff like this.

My heart goes out to the victims.

  35. bigbamboom1 says: Feb 14, 2014 2:02 PM

Wow! I’m glad they got this guy. It looks like he was headed down a very dark passage, that ultimately was destined to end in a much worse catastrophe for one or some of his victims. I just hope they don’t find something much more sinister and horrific in the guy’s hidden past. Especially for the women who were infected by this creep’s brand of terror.

  36. warhawk137 says: Feb 14, 2014 2:03 PM

By the way, that “Pick Magnet” segment just went from hokey to hella creepy.

  39. blingslade says: Feb 14, 2014 2:14 PM

Man, this is unbelievable. This guy had the world by it’s tail and now he’s probably going to prison for decades.

Thank God Sharper is being taken off the streets..for good.

  40. edisbetterthantroy says: Feb 14, 2014 2:22 PM

RING! RING! – Mr. Sharper, Ben Roethlisberger’s attorney is on line 2

  41. jm91rs says: Feb 14, 2014 2:28 PM

Wow, looks like life in prison for Sharper. I hope you blew through all of your money, because it’s not going to be any good to you where you’re going.

  42. wishingtonredslur says: Feb 14, 2014 2:34 PM

So strange that it doesn’t say he forced the four women to take the shots. How would you force one woman to take shots while another watches and then force the second one? This doesn’t make a ton of sense at all.

  43. skunkyjared says: Feb 14, 2014 2:36 PM

Wow, all these comments would matter if he was found guilty. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Now it’s guilty until proven innocent!

  49. blueberrymuffin11 says: Feb 14, 2014 3:26 PM

By “shots,” do you mean shots of alcohol in a glass or injections?? I’m shocked by all the people on here scratching their heads as to why someone with so much money would need to drug a woman in order to have sex with them. There are myriad reasons, least of all the one being that, if drugged, a woman cannot say no to anything the man has in mind. This gives him total power and control to do whatever he wants with no resistance. No resistance equals no marks or bruises, thereby making it easier to say, “oh, but it was consensual!”

  50. gbmickey says: Feb 14, 2014 3:56 PM

The guy could very well turn out to be a serial rapist. Think about that. Even retired this will have ramifications for the NFL. In a years time you have the multi-murderer Hernandez and now Sharper.

  51. eleventyeight says: Feb 14, 2014 7:43 PM

I wonder if the accusations in other states were made before this set?

    This is crazy.

A story like this has the potential to be hugely explosive, but I had to search for it here.

    Madness. Madness and insanity.

  52. gbearc says: Feb 14, 2014 9:38 PM

‘Good looking dude with millions in the bank. Has no problem getting women. I’m baffled.

If this is true he is the biggest moron in the long sad list of stupid jock morons.’

For this and the other comments about how if he could get the women to his hotel room, he didn’t need drugs to sleep with them, etc..apparently it hasn’t occurred to you that he lied to them. He could have said there was a party in his room, could have asked them to come up for a few drinks before going out, etc etc. Also, a rapist isn’t interested in ‘sex’, they are interested in brutalizing their victim.

  53. packfanaj12 says: Feb 18, 2014 2:31 PM

With being a celebrity status, all facts will need to be fully figured out before I will say he is a creep. Having money and fame can attract negative attention even if you didn’t do anything wrong. If he is guilty, then shame on him. People need to be smart about their decision making, Sharper and the woman involved.

  54. govikings84cp says: Feb 19, 2014 1:28 AM

There are some things that I can look past. This is one thing I will not. He was one of my favorite players when he played for the Vikings. I would watch him on NFL network even when he would rage on the Vikings. Now I have a jersey that I have to cut up because I will not wear it in public again. I don’t look at NFL players the same after this.
