Seahawks add Greg Van Roten

51f2e67074e2c.preview-620 AP

Seahawks General Manager John Schneider made the move from Green Bay to Seattle several years ago and now he’s added a player to the roster that will be making the same trip.

Offensive lineman Greg Van Roten tweeted on Friday that “I play for the Seahawks now” along with a picture of a Seahawks sweatshirt. Van Roten was cut by the Packers earlier this week.

Van Roten signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and played 10 regular season and three playoff games for Green Bay before getting waived. Van Roten’s agent said the team told him they wanted to go with bigger players on the interior of the line.

Van Roten, who plays guard and center, joins a line that has Breno Giacomini and Paul McQuistan headed for free agency next month. Van Roten will likely be battling for a roster spot during the offseason and training camp with his chances hinging at least somewhat on how things play out with them and/or any new additions.

I hope the hawks don’t follow the same path the Vikings have taken by signing all the packer have nots!!

Once he gets into Seadderal’s “Program”, I’m sure he’ll show tremendous performance enhancement over his stay in Green Bay.

It’s great that Vikings fan live vicariously through our success. That’s why i never am offended by any negative comments they have to say on SEAHAWKS articles. We have something they don’t have and Cordarelle Patterson won’t change that.

Upon learning the Seahawks deemed Van Roten worthy of signing, probably safe to assume the person that canned him in Green Bay is now the one without a job.

We have generally gotten good results from the ex-Packers that have flown to our nest. Even Matt Flynn contributed something, though I’m not sure exactly what that was. Holmgren, Hasselbeck, et al, are names that will live on in both Green Bay and Seattle.

Welcome to Renton, Mr. Van Roten.

I’m a Giants fan and am commenting to say Richard Sherman is Incredible.

Carroll barely has a winning record? He’s like at least a dozen games over .500 with Seattle. Im a 9ers fan but admit Harbaugh inherited most of the studs here. Willis, Staley, Gore, VD, Crabs, Iupati, Boone, Bowman, Lee, etc. It was clear Singletary was holding us back, any average coach could have been 10-6+ with this team.

    meatcarroll says: Dec 19, 2013 6:05 PM

I ain’t even mad at Sherman, been a Bronco fan since the 81 and he’s the best CB I’ve seen since Bailey and maybe Woodson.

“probably going to win multiple Super Bowl rings before his career is over.”
People said the same thing about Dan Marino. Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched. I’m a Colts fan and I’d like it if people would stop crowning Luck’s ass right away please. He did a good job climbing out of the huge hole that he was responsible for building, but not every team is going to roll over and die like the Chiefs.

Tom Cable is a total badass and I credit him for molding their OL and ground game from a bunch of meek little softies after they let Hutch leave in 06 into unapologetic ass-kickers in 2011. I honestly wish my Raiders didn’t stupidly fire him and I bet he’s the successor whenever Pete Carroll retires.

How soon until John Schneider signs Finley, BJ Raji and James Jones. Maybe he gets into a bidding war with MN who is always feeding off Packer castaways.

Seattle has a long history of signing castoff Packer players so this isn’t a surprise at all.

John Schneider scouted and pushed to draft or sign these guys originally so he is comfortable enough to sign them when they become “castoff Packer players”.
