Seahawks add Greg Van Roten

Seahawks General Manager John Schneider made the move from Green Bay to Seattle several years ago and now he’s added a player to the roster that will be making the same trip.

Offensive lineman Greg Van Roten tweeted on Friday that “I play for the Seahawks now” along with a picture of a Seahawks sweatshirt. Van Roten was cut by the Packers earlier this week.

Van Roten signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and played 10 regular season and three playoff games for Green Bay before getting waived. Van Roten’s agent said the team told him they wanted to go with bigger players on the interior of the line.

Van Roten, who plays guard and center, joins a line that has Breno Giacomini and Paul McQuistan headed for free agency next month. Van Roten will likely be battling for a roster spot during the offseason and training camp with his chances hinging at least somewhat on how things play out with them and/or any new additions.
