Falcons issue the mother of all perfunctory statements

We use the word “perfunctory” often around here when it comes to team statements on arrested players.

The Falcons have taken it to another level.

After Roddy White was arrested this morning for failing to pay off a window-tint violation, the team issued the following remarks:

“We are aware of the incident involving Roddy White. We anticipate this will be resolved shortly and we will have no further comment at this time.”

Translated, by me, that means: “We have to say something because someone asked. But this is stupid. Please can we all move on?”

White’s “smile-for-the-camera” mugshot this morning also puts the arrest in its proper context.

You are not allowed to reset the days without arrest clock for window tint.

  2. cobrala2 says: Feb 18, 2014 9:43 AM

    They HAVE TO say something?
    Is that NFL policy?

Thanks for the reminder Roddy. Must have my tint removed by March 19th

There is no story here. Let’s move on.

So the mother of all perfunctory statements is the same exact statement that all teams make? Definitely not an over-exaggeration.

Steelers fans are a joke…lol real steel, dude can barley lift an iPod

  7. arwiv says: Feb 18, 2014 10:03 AM

This is a non-story…..but jeez Roddy, it would have taken you less than 5 minutes to have mailed in the payment for the fine when you first got it.

Over-tinting your windows is stupid. Why not just paint “Hey Cops, please harass me” down the side of your car?

  9. rockstart42 says: Feb 18, 2014 10:16 AM

an idiot gets arrested for not paying a bill on window tenting… this is news.

Translation: we in the media feel that we are entitled to a more in depth statement and if we don’t get it we’re going to act like whiny little girls

It’s just stupid that a famous NFL player should have to obey the law. Geez.

  12. vicnocal says: Feb 18, 2014 10:54 AM

Queue all the “Well, daggummit, the law is the law!” idiots.

Welcome to the South. It really sucks to live in a Police State.

I love how we make a front page news out of every minor infraction involving athletes who are essentially Entertainers, but gloss over even worse behavior with other Celebrities.

Basically, he was arrested for being stupid.

  16. granadafan says: Feb 18, 2014 11:26 AM

Where I live in LA, if you don’t have tinted windows, you’ll roast in the direct sunlight as you sit in traffic. Cops ignore it unless they’re looking for an excuse to pull you over (i.e, suspicious).

If I was a famous pro football player I’d do everything NOT to make myself unseen. There’s some hot southern belles driving around down thar.

It just might be a good idea for a policeman to be able to have a fighting chance to actually SEE a driver or passenger with a gun drawn before tapping on the driver’s window to ask for driver’s license and registration…….

Roddy White = not real smart in real life stuff, but damn good football player!

  20. dcapettini says: Feb 18, 2014 11:40 AM

What do you suggest they say instead?

  21. briang123 says: Feb 18, 2014 11:42 AM

The shade of my tinted windows puts those on gangsta rappers’ cars to shame. Glad I live in a state that has sensible laws on tinted windows, i.e. none.

  22. dickshotdogs says: Feb 18, 2014 11:47 AM

I really do hate to repeat myself, but is anyone else ready to talk about football?

  23. ilovefoolsball says: Feb 18, 2014 11:56 AM

He’s above the law. When they were arresting I’m he asked the cops if they knew who he is.

  24. thraiderskin says: Feb 18, 2014 12:43 PM

Actually Brian… your state is stupid. If I was a cop, I’d just shoot first, then find out if the driver or passenger(s) were armed.

  25. lionfl says: Feb 18, 2014 12:57 PM

Gee maybe Suh can be blamed for this……

In a city ravaged by violent crime, you can count on the police…

to mostly ignore it while harassing joe citizen for anything that will earn the city much needed revenue.

Tinted windows may be covering up activity that would lead to bigger trouble than lame tinted window charge.
