Cowboys win toss with Ravens for the 16th spot in draft

The Cowboys have won the toss, and will not defer.

The league announced that the Cowboys won this morning’s flip with the Ravens for draft position, held in Indianapolis.

That means the Cowboys will pick 16th in the first round, and the Ravens 17th, and sets the full draft order for the first round.

The Cowboys could use the help, as they’re still tight enough in cap space that they won’t be players in free agency.

Does it matter who wins the coin toss? Dallas will inevitability lose in the draft!

  2. jtbsteeler says: Feb 19, 2014 8:47 AM

HAHA. Ravens third in the division and then get bumped down another draft pick! Hilarious. We’ll draft that receiver, don’t worry.

I hope you trade up and lose more picks.

  3. southpaw2k says: Feb 19, 2014 8:47 AM

If being over the cap limit by about $28 million translates to “tight,” then yes I’d agree.

  4. PeterKingLovesCoqAVin says: Feb 19, 2014 8:47 AM

They’ll still take a center projected to go in round four.

  5. 23rdusernameused says: Feb 19, 2014 8:48 AM

Won’t matter! They’ll waste the pick for sure…
like picking a projected 3rd or 4th round center in the first round! DOH
    Jerrah, priceless!

  6. eagleswin says: Feb 19, 2014 8:51 AM

Cowboys decline to make the pick because Jerry Jones the GM has already assembled a team where an untested draft pick has no chance to make the roster.

Also, any money used on the draft pick will take away from the money that he can give to Romo and in Dallas, it’s all about making Romo happy.

  7. floratiotime says: Feb 19, 2014 9:00 AM

Not really a factor. Last year the Cowboys took a guy they could have had in the second round. Probably will do something just as stupid this year.

  8. stealthscorpio says: Feb 19, 2014 9:00 AM

    Of course we won 16/32=.500

  9. joemammy says: Feb 19, 2014 9:04 AM

    The curse of Art Modell.

  10. sbaltimore says: Feb 19, 2014 9:07 AM

Just as well. If Harbaugh had won the toss he probably would have deferred.

  11. overratedsteelerhater says: Feb 19, 2014 9:08 AM

doesen’t matter cowboys cant draft right at all.Pittsburgh can’t even pick there nose so they should worry about there pick not Ravens.

  12. ingraven says: Feb 19, 2014 9:11 AM

Congrats Cowboys. You finally won something.

  13. ravanator says: Feb 19, 2014 9:12 AM

Should have played for the pick. Joe “Montana” Flacco would have destroyed the weak Dallas defense. Suggs would have had 5 sacks. Dallas franchise is pathetic, Ravens franchise is the greatest in the history of sports. I have spoken.

  14. alewatcher says: Feb 19, 2014 9:14 AM

With JJ running the draft, does it really make that much difference whether they pick 16th or 17th?

  15. crownofthehelmet says: Feb 19, 2014 9:29 AM

16th or 17th pick won’t matter for the ravens. At this point they’ve gotta be thinking about cutting their losses and package the 17th and Flacco for a chance at Manziel.

  16. crownofthehelmet says: Feb 19, 2014 9:30 AM

Nevermind, no team would take on flacco’s contract after being the worst rated QB last season.

  17. Joemontanaflacco says: Feb 19, 2014 9:34 AM

How funny that petty little Steelers’ fans are celebrating even this! I guess the fans will take to the streets today for a “Ravens Lost the Coin Flip” Parade.

  18. Joemontanaflacco says: Feb 19, 2014 9:43 AM

Nevermind, Pittsburgh is still in the middle of the month-long “We Are 2nd In the AFCN!!!” Festival.

  19. prijak1 says: Feb 19, 2014 9:43 AM

As much as I Live the Cowboys the draft pick doesn’t really matter. Jerry Jones will end up drafting a 4th round caliber player … Go Dallas!

  20. haterade999 says: Feb 19, 2014 9:48 AM

Steelers fans and Bengals fans infiltrate and comment on every single article about the Ravens.

Ravens fans just stick to our own team. What does that tell you?

  21. tvjules says: Feb 19, 2014 9:50 AM

Does it matter? Jerruh will still look like a fool in the war room, as Jason Garrett looks on from the kids table.

  22. seabreezes51 says: Feb 19, 2014 9:51 AM

Oh…they will be players in free agency all right….as they add players to the pool for other teams to sign.

  23. thealmightybigblue says: Feb 19, 2014 9:55 AM

The cowgirls won?oh wait it’s not December/January,never mind.

  24. bendover09 says: Feb 19, 2014 9:57 AM

Frederick wouldve been gone by the start of the second round. Just bc analyst have him viewed last round does not me he was going to go.. New York Giants had him on their draft going to them in the second round.

Frederick has already made the probowl. T. smith has turned into one of the best linemen. How are these picks horrible? Get off the Cowboys nuts already.

One last thing, if the cowboys sucks so bad why haven’t your team caught us in bowl wins? That’s right, shut up

  25. wolfman55h says: Feb 19, 2014 10:02 AM

Lucky for Dallas Romo didnt have to toss the coin late in the fourth quarter. #choke!

  26. rockthered1286 says: Feb 19, 2014 10:04 AM

I still think it’s beyond messed up that the NFL proclaimed that the Steelers draft picks would be altered due to the Tomlin incident and then did absolutely nothing. What SHOULD they do? Swap picks. ravens @ 15 and Steelers @ 17. But Goodell hates Baltimore so nothing will happen of course.

  27. thestatsishere says: Feb 19, 2014 10:07 AM

And Jerry Jones will find a way to screw it up.

  28. steelerstrong says: Feb 19, 2014 10:11 AM

Really feel bad for the ravens…….Not.

  29. Nofoolnodrool says: Feb 19, 2014 10:13 AM

Ravens fans just stick to our own team. What does that tell you?

It tells me you are either blind or have a very low reading comprehension level…but hey that’s what makes you a true raven fan.

Coin toss loss is just the beginning to a very long season for the whiney Ratburd fans. Cheers.

What vintage was the above Delmarva whine?

  31. crownofthehelmet says: Feb 19, 2014 10:16 AM

This will be the first of many ravens losses in 2014.

  32. paulsmith107 says: Feb 19, 2014 10:17 AM

I wish people would stop with the Frederick talk. Justin Pugh and Kyle long weren’t first round talents either but they were great picks. Dallas does the same thing and everyone bashes the pick. And remember that trade also netted Terrance Williams who was a pretty big piece for Dallas. Now the Escobar and Wilcox picks are different stories but Frederick wouldn’t have been there in round two

  33. jtbsteeler says: Feb 19, 2014 10:20 AM

Ravens fans begging for the league to swap our pick, even after you won the game. Hilarious.

  34. mshawn75 says: Feb 19, 2014 10:24 AM

Doesn’t matter. Jerry will open his mouth about “who he loves”, and they will go at 14 or 15. Then Jerry will try to make a splash, and the Raverns will take someone that makes the Pro Bowl.

  35. Coach John Harbaugh says: Feb 19, 2014 10:39 AM

first time the cowboys have beaten us since the world came in existence

i will still dominate the draft, as i always do

  36. lovefootball4life says: Feb 19, 2014 10:44 AM

Whatever. Seriously doubt they’re looking at the same player for the first round anyway.

    The curse of Art Modell.

That’s the curse that has your team winning two Super Bowls in 14 years. It’s rough, let me tell you.

  38. austinoxford says: Feb 19, 2014 10:59 AM

Everyone knocking the Frederick pick clearly didn’t watch him play last year. If you want to knock a pick, its the Escobar pick. People on here read a Kiper analysis from a year ago and base their comments purely on that. Mob mentality and regurgitation of tired, old “jerry should fire himself” sentiments are the only ammunition for Cowboys haters.

  39. w2lucky says: Feb 19, 2014 12:08 PM

There are plenty of reasons for hating the Cowboys and Jones. The Frederick pick is not one of them. If you watched any of his games you would have seen a quality center and a bargain pick that drastically improved the Cowboys line.

  40. granadafan says: Feb 19, 2014 12:09 PM

Jerrah thinks very highly of his GM, and won’t hesitate to let you know what a great job he’s doing.

  41. backdapack4evr says: Feb 19, 2014 12:19 PM

So we don’t know who the loser is yet because the cowboys didn’t pick yet!!

  42. mrnasty1984 says: Feb 19, 2014 12:33 PM

I love all the hate for the Cowboys first round pick last year. At the time of the draft, Frederick was rated as a 2nd-4th round center… And he ended up being the best center in the class, not to mention Dallas got a pretty nifty receiver named Terrance Williams out of the deal. Still think after the way he played, and Dallas O-line problems the year prior that it was a mistake? Doubtful.

  43. z06vision says: Feb 19, 2014 1:21 PM

ray Rice being arrested and now they lose a spot to the cowboys. 2014 is starting perfect for the ravens and their fans, LOSING before it begins. 🙂

  44. undapressha1 says: Feb 19, 2014 4:07 PM

    Jerry’s drafted,lee,turner, bryant, Fredrick’s
Williams,Murray, not bad! He might guilty of over paying players. But that’s it

  45. tittsburghfeelers6 says: Feb 24, 2014 12:46 AM

Sorry Ravens. We’re Taking Mike Evans. Its nice to see how Flaxco plays without A physical receiver. Try your luck with Benjamin but he sucks. But there should be a decent RB at 17 since Ray Rays goings Bye Bye.
